What car would you trade for your prosche?

While at a local car night Saturday I struck up a conversation with a fellow admiring my old '87 911 Carrera. He'd always wanted a 911 and wanted to know what they were worth nowadays. He was a bit suprised at how "cheap" they were. And then he hit me with this....would I consider a trade for his older C5 'vette (1998).

His car was in nice shape and was showing 60K less miles than my 911. But I immediately said I wasn't ready to part with old faithful.

Afterwards, I began thinking about it. Checked the KBB values and looked in classifieds and 911 and C5's were selling for about the same. And thoughts of new 500hp crate motors for the same amount we pay for 100K mile used 3.2's crossed my mind. And how much fun I had in a friends C5 with a 6 speed.

In the end, I decided that I really really liked my car...and within reason there was nothing I'd really want in its stead.

So here's the question...What would you trade your 911 for? An earlier model? Later model? A new Carrera GT? A 550 spyder? Well lets be reasonable here..LOL

Keep in mind the cost of ownership and it would be a car for you to own and drive as you do your current ride...not turn around and make a quick profit on. Or to park in a museum...

But there's nothing else (reasonable) that I'd trade my Porsche for. Otherwise, I would have purchased that, instead.

I've never driven one but I did ride in a well executed 427 replica...DAYUM it rode harsh. It was a definitely *****z and giggles machine but in the end I'd probably prefer your 930.

Too many variables. If you're talking similar cost, I can't think of any car I'd trade the 911 for. Honestly.

However, If you're talking any car, well heck, I can think of all kinds of cars I'd rather have: 964RS, 964 Cup, 993RS, 996 GT3, 997 GT3, 996 or 997 TT, RSR replica, Jack Olsens's car, etc.

I can think of a whole host of Ferrari's, Aston's etc.

Hard, Hard question. I'm a dumb loyal bastard. This Car is like my child. I'm learning her faults (& slowly fixing them) for better or worse. I would trade it or sell it but the deal would be extremly lopsided. I don't even want to think about this. My car is my dream car. Sure I have others but this is the first!

in short, there's nothing much that I would trade my 911 for (for the sake of discussion let's say it's all finished how I want it, which it currently is not)...most of these cars are really in addition to a good 911, as there is nothing quite like a 911....I hope to own a couple of these someday...

Hmm. I just went through this with a friend.

I've come to the conclusion that I can't continue to accumulate cars, so my 73.5 targa is the first attempt to go into catch-and-release mode: in theory, I'll keep it for a couple of years and then move it along in favor of something else I want to experience.

I've been through a bunch of Britcars, so I don't feel any need for an Etype, for example. But I'm pretty clearly not done with the disease. I've currently got a Ferrari with the V12 in front where God and Enzo intended, so I don't need to spend more money to find out what, oh, a 275 GTS or a 250 SWB is like. I've spent enough time in a 930 to know that it's a lot of fun but mostly wasted on me.

I already know that I don't fit in a Mini or a Europa. Oh well.

In no particular order:

Elan S2
2CV or DS12 (one or the other will be plenty, I'm sure)
Seven
NSX
Bugeye (maybe with an engine swap ... rotary?)
Viper, or something with a similar torque to weight ratio

550 Spyder (a guy can dream ... )
964 RS (ditto)
500 Mondial or 340 America (*really* dreaming here)

And I've always wanted an opportunity to do a couple of laps in a McLaren M8A...

If I ever find myself with enough focus to vintage race, a Lotus FF or FJ would be nice. But I don't think that's too likely.

After getting through those, I'll probably circle around to whatever I liked best!

my next project (not even done with the 911!) is to restore my Dad's (now in the hands of an elderly friend) '62 356 Karmann "Notchback" 1600-Super..originally delivered in Black w/ a Red interior to Jack McAfee at his Porsche-Audi dealership..a custom order 356 that currently has about 120k original miles and a rebuilt Isky-cam motor w/ about 115 hp

The FJ40 is a real hoot. We bought a cabin south of Yosemite about 4 years back. There are a ton of Forest Service roads, and we had a lot of fun banging around them in our Subaru 2.5RS.

Until winter came. The Subie just doesn't have enough ground clearance for real snow. So we didn't do that through the winter. When spring came, we went back out, and got stuck in a drift.

That annoyed me, so I went looking for different vehicle. The FJ40 is perfect. First time I went up one of our favorite routes, my sweetie tells me I had the most evil grin on my face ... where, with the Subie, I was picking and choosing my way through the ruts, in the FJ I can just bang over them... it's the right tool for the job.

I'd hate to commute in it. But with studded tires (or chains for extreme conditions) it can go anywhere.
