From golf balls to bending hardwood, this show is great. Our Son discovered it tonight and was facinated by it.

"Dad, you get to go in to all sorts of places like this that make stuff?"

"Yep, pretty much anything you can think of I have seen made first hand."

"Wow! Cool! I wanna do that too!"

Dirtiest: Drywall Gypsome Plant
Smelliest: Rendering Plant
Cleanest: Microelctronic fab line - class 10
Hottest: Glass Plant (150F on the top of the line - only lasted 10 min in full gear)
Biggest: Steel Mill
Tastiest: M&M Plant or Little Debbie Plant
Most Toxic: Hazardous Waste Processing Plant
Lowest: Nickel Mine (3500ft below ground)
Richest: Diamond Mine the Gold/Silver Mine
Most Secure: Toy Manufacturing (far more than mil stuff!)
Most Impressive: BMW plant, Honda Plant
Most depressing: Appliance Manufacturer
Most Memorable: Dildo plant (Doc Johnsons! Seriously!)

We've Tivo'd the season and the kids love it in our house. Lots of the same reactions...."Wow!" "Cool!"

We Tivo "Extreme Engineering" also. It's a bit long for the kids, but they like to watch it with us...not as much as the 1/2 hour of "How It's Made."

Yep. One of the best shows on TV, IMO. Just the facts and a description of the process.

Agreed. Extremely interesting stuff! Gotta' hand it to Discovery, they've probably got the best programming overall of any channel/network on television right now. Fantastic lineup overall.

Those guys have it figured out. People actually want programming that doesn't make you feel cheap/dirty/stupid/ripped off after watching. I probably have my tuner dialed to Discovery or Science for 90% of the programming I watch.

Discovery, History, and Cartoon Network are my primary channels. I also will flip to Speed, TLC, Comedy Central, and National Geographic on occasion.

Great show. Funny this should come up. I DVRed the show and watched it a couple of weeks ago. One of the subjects was hammocks, which we were thinking about getting for the yard. I was impressed with the quality of how they made them on the show and I happened to get a quick glimpse of the tag of the maker and web site. I later logged on and then called them. Really nice people out of Canada. Plan to order one for the Spring.

I also enjoy that show.

As a trombone player, I found the trombone factory footage pretty cool.

I love Discovery Channel. One show I miss is The Secret Life of Machines. Ultra low budget but great content.

Mike, just out of curiosity, what was so depressing about the appliance plant? Working conditions? Or just seeing how crappy these things are made.:eek:

I spent many hours at Baron Applience and Hoover Vacuum as well as Royal. The factory and quality were fine but the people on the assembly lines seemed out of it. They did there jobs well don't get me wrong but they had this look in their eyes that spelt out dispair. I hadn't seen that in other factories. It was just interesting that the these were appliance factories. Textile plants ran a close second. Must be that the workers feel pressure from their Asain competition?

I also like History International and The Military Channel. One of my favorite series is "Wings of the Luftwaffe".
