Astronaut tried to kidnap love rival

Quote:
By Barbara Liston
ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) - Disguised in a dark wig, glasses and a trench coat, U.S. space shuttle astronaut Lisa Nowak waited in hiding for a woman she considered a rival for another astronaut's affections and tried to kidnap her, police in Orlando said on Monday.

Nowak, 43, was arrested on charges including battery and attempted kidnapping, according to an Orlando police affidavit.
Rest of story here

This is quite the shocker. I was not sure what to think when I first read the headline. Wow!

In the old days, NASA went to GREAT lengths to keep scandal of any kind from being associated with the astronauts...not that there was all tha much scandal with those guys anyway. Many of them were Boy Scouts....literally!

I was under the impression that most of the Mercury 7 (minus Glenn) were notorious drinkers and had a girl in every port...

Now that's a story you don't see everyday.

And naturally, it happened in Florida. What a shock.

I was expecting to see a picture of a male astronaut at first.

I got a laugh when it was said she had diapers in her car, so that, she would not have to make any rest stops.

True but that was true of a LOT of males in those days. Hell, Presidnet Kennedy was the leader of the free world in the "girl in every port" departement AND the press didn't report it. They didn't report on the astronauts either, in part because the press was doing those things too. Kidnappping (probably wouldn't have fallen under those gentlemen's agreements.

Her career is going to be over in a few days. I bet she is really regretting things right now. She is one of the few women in space - what happens in space, stays in space. Flings in the name of science

Actually, her career is already over...and she probably knows it too.

Bets on her doing a photo shoot in Playboy? Nah....but an appearence on Oprah within the year is almost certain.

I think the police use the same cameras as the DMV. The picture always sucks!

They did but it was kept under wraps. I spent sometime with the old Convair 240 airplane that flew them around and we kept finding very interesting things on board at times.

They had a very good time as the ladies evidently threw themselves at the Mercury 7 astronauts at every stop.

I think her life is in a tail spin...

She seems to be in a downward sprial...

She's in for a rough landing...

I'll be here until Tuesday, don't forget to tip your waitress and bartenders, drive safe.

I thought NASA's screening process would have weeded out someone capable of such an irrational act. What a weird story!

You would think the psych. screening would have caught stuff like this before it happened.
