Teddy Kennedy Was Right
As much as I hate to admit that Teddy Kennedy has ever done anything right, I have to give em this one. Teddy Kennedy voted NO on the Iraq war. That in of itself wouldn't have been enough for me to make this admission. It was his reasoning that was prescient. To paraphrase he said two things. One that while Iraq is a danger in general it isn't an immediate danger that we need to go to war over. That the administration didn't present a strong enough intelligence that would prove it to be an immediate danger. Two that the Administrations post-war planning was inadequate to the challenges that it faced.
Secondly Teddy Kennedy is in a unique position of power in the Senate and with the electorate in his home state. A Senator of lesser stature? would have been hard pressed to express such a contrarian point of view. Another Senator would have had to risk a great deal more to make a stand on principle at a time of such emotion.

The man has no soul. Or at least he lives that way. Most mortals with a soul would work a little harder to stay clear of hell.

His reasoning seemed pretty transparent at the time. His only motivation was to take an opposing position...that's his style. If Bush wanted to send $100B to Nato so they could invest it in a peaceful ME, he'd have opposed that too (even thought that's the kind of logic he would otherwise embrace).
The fact that he can now thumb his nose and say "told ya' so" was pure luck...nothing more. And that's only assuming he was, in fact...right.

You seem to be discounting the fact that he is a Kennedy. That is why he can behave in that manner, it's his heritage.
He still let MJK drown and for me that puts him in the same category as OJ, but then again, he is a Kennedy. |

The Kennedys are a tragic family: one son killed in WWII, two sons murdered, one daughter killed in a plane crash, another daughter retarded.... and then there's the offspring deaths.
Now, why are they so villified by the Right? For the same reason FDR was--keeping a mistress while he was in the White House. Sex. The Kennedy father was a philanderer, and so were the sons. What happened in that accident on the Cape? Who knows, though Teddy was damn lucky to get out alive. Don't know how he did it with a bad back from a prior air crash. I don't villify the Kennedys. There is too much tragedy there. Besides, the sons have had distinguished public and/or military service. A lot of people like their politics. Their private life is another matter. But they don't have the luxury of most people of having a private life.

No fan of the Kennedys here. Joe Jr jealous of his brother Johns medal volunteers for a suicide mission..and his plane blows up...yeah real bright.
The Kennedys play as if the rules don't apply to them. If U continue with that attitude a bullet with your name on it is sent on its way.
