What do you think of the Audi Allroad?

I need to get a bigger everyday driver so I can haul ny baby boy around.
I am thinking of getting an Allroad.
Has anyone ever owned one?
I am looking at a high mileage car, 150,000 miles.
I have heard that the tip transmission is touchy & the suspension has some issues.
The car I am looking at is a nice price and seems to be very well taken car of.
Anyone have any advice on this car?

we have an 2005. hauls ass, great brakes. killer stereo. night driving you feel like your in a submarine rigged for night ops w/all the red gauges. good luck finding a tow hitch from audi...........NLA and i got the last one known to man on the n.american continent, out of san antonio audi dealer.

good car. audi has upped the ante as far as quality. if it were me.........buy a touregg. i think better bang for buck and cheaper to repair. audi has gone into rare air as far as service and parts prices. example $636 bucks for dum A$$ trailer hitch!

i believe the A6 Avant will give you similar utility but without the potentially expensive adjustable ride suspension.

As an alternative you might wish to look at V70 wagons. Lots of space and can be very nicely equipped. XC of course would be awd.

Why would anyone attempt to tow anything with an Audi?
No thanks, I will stick to use my P-cars as tow vehicles.

a 150K mile audi anything would be a potentially wallet draining experience.

Actually in my A-6 Manual under towing it clearly states Audi were not intended to be used for towing.

lyon - start hitting youself in the head with a board now. When you stop it feels better. That my description of owning an Audi.

the 2.7 turbo is supposedly less dependable (according to a service rep at audi) than the 3.0, which is what I have in the regular avant. great car.

I think you can get the service history if you call your audi dealer and give them the VIN--but they told me they dont retain other dealerships' service histories after 50k miles. JH

hey here we go again..............audi does make a trailer hitch. and it lasted on the market not very long either. 01 part number for 2001 then 02 for 2002-2005 the last year mfgd. for station wagon . the hitch was only made til 02. supercedes to 05 model.

now wise guys..........are allroads raced? were they designed to race. were they even designed to do what a 911 does.

is the engine in the back of an allroad?

soooooooooooooo there!

and please if you can find an OEM new on shelf from porsche, trailer hitch for a 911...................BUY IT! it quite possibly may make you INFAMOUS!

2005 AUDI ALLROAD QUATTRO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Recall Date: 06/05/2006

Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HALOGEN LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS, CERTAIN CONNECTOR PINS IN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH CONNECTOR COME INTO CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER CAUSING A SHORT CIRCUIT. NOTE: VEHICLES WITH XENON LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT AFFECTED BECAUSE THE CIRCUIT IN THESE VEHICLES CONTAINS A FUSE, WHICH PRECLUDES EXCESSIVE CURRENT FLOW IN THE CASE OF A SHORT CIRCUIT. AUDI S6 AND S6 AVANT VEHICLES ARE ALL EQUIPPED WITH XENON LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS AND, THEREFORE, ARE NOT LONGER AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL.

Consequence:
THIS CONDITION COULD LEAD TO OVERHEATING OR FIRE.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REROUTE THE WIRING HARNESS BY INSTALLING A JUMPER WIRING HARNESS. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT DECEMBER 15, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AUDI AT 1-800-822-2834.

Potential Units Affected: 70512

Notes: AUDI ALLROAD QUATTRO JN

What do you guys think of the A4? 1999-2001? Would that be a cheaper car to own?

I think he meant to say, "less intolerably dull". I can't imagine owning a 4000lb station wagon without the turbo torque of the 2.7.

Had an 2001 A6 Avant and really liked it but it had tranny issues (fixed under warrenty) an oil leak (fixed under warrenty) and a few other issues (fixed under warrenty). Would not own one w/out a warrenty.

+1 Never own one out of warranty.

My 2001 A-6 2.7T quattro had a coolant leak. It took 3 trips and 10 days in the dealership to get it fixed. They replaced practically the entire coolent system and it turned out to be a pin hole in the radiator.

I also had electrical gremlins, windows would get stuck in the down position and the sunroof would stay open. Along with the dash going out, and radio not working.

So I traded it in and leased a 2005 A6 3.2 quattro and at the 3K mile point picked up where I left off with the other one.

6 Disk CD changer took a dump at 3K miles and the dealership never got any of the 6 disks back to me as promised.

My car was also robbed one time when it was there everything was stolen outside of the interior. What I mean is the glove box and center console was emptied. The dealership did squat about it. Offered nothing and I was really pissed at them.

My last Audi ever.

Sounds like these were all problems with the dealer. All cars break, some get fixed better than others. So far, with my last three Audis, nothing has failed. I repeat, nada, zip, zero.

Having said that, and back to the original question, whereas I would see nothing wrong with owning an Audi with high miles (I still have a couple of those around) I wouldn't want to buy somebody else's high mileage car. They got rid of it for a reason and I'd be afraid of learning exactly why, at my expense. There isn't that much of a premium paid for lower mileage on used cars, as compared to age. I'd rather buy an older one, with fewer miles, than a newer one with a pile of miles. They are out there, if you look.

I sure wish Honda & Toyota would get with the program and offer a sporty, roomy wagon to compete.
