I think you need to drive the red car pictured above, or its predecessor. Mercedes can't touch it, and what's saving BMW from the car's threat is simply BMW's highly-touted sport sedan history.

That "red car" looks like a complete knock-off of the Infinity G35 to me.

I assume its the new CTS - or is it STS? Has anyone driven one of them?

Can I ask where you took that photo? Is that the dealership in downtown Medford that has all the old cars?

Looks like a '49 or '50 Ford--the days when GM and Ford were making the best cars.
Remember when anybody who was anybody had a Cadillac?
The symbol of success.

I have. It's very good. As good, if not better, than the last 3-Series BMW from about 2003. Pictured is the new for 2008 model. Aside from one person's strange assessment that it looks like a mathematician designed it (Huh?), the car has received otherwise high praise.

Dottore...it's a '50. Very similar to my 1st car. I lifted the photo from a dealer in Portland..IF I ever go toy car again, it may be in this area...just an old cruiser, like something from the street scenes in American Graffiti...(edit) The new Caddy? No interest in my part. But then, no interest in a BMW either.

American cars from a traditional European view:

Big
Thirsty
Comfy
Sloppy steering
Sloppy suspension
Mediocre build quality
Plastic interior
Automatic trans

:D

Or so I have read, at least...

Now I know quite a few non-American-named cars (Ford, GM, Chrysler, etc.) are built here in the states (Honda, Mercedes, now Subaru), so my question is can these "foreign" cars which are assembled to an extent in The States, be regarded as American cars? They are, at least, built by Americans - which is a good thing.

Could claiming overseas successes be a symptom of just how FUBAR the US auto industry is?

What defines an American car?

The huge cliff(depreciation) surrounding the dealers lot.

Cadillac? Meh.

Is it better than many/most other American cars in the respects I mentioned... probably. I just don't have faith in the brand any more.

Then again, there's just about nothing out there I'd buy new anyway.

I thought an American car was defined by the price of the replacement parts.
