I don't care how ugly he is, how not-funny he is, how liberal he is, how crazy he is, how uniformed he is, how much of a failure he is, or how unpopular he is....I still wouldn't vote for him.

So does this make Jay Leno an attention whore? And politicians are not? Or maybe everyone whose image we see in the media is an attention whore?

Or maybe it's just "liberal comedians." Which of course, means the same as "comedian."

Often wondered why famous liberals like Paul Newman and Robert Redford never ran for political office. They would have won easily. After all, the media gives you a free ride if you are a movie star or TV personality. Right, Arnold?

If he wins, hopefully he runs for President some day, with Ben Stein as the VP on the ticket.

That'd be awesome.

Just ask Ronald Reagan, Sonny Bono, Gopher (whatever his name is), Clint Eastwood.

You know, when Reagan ran, everybody laughed because a lightweight, Hollywood type wasn't serious/strong enough for Washington.

But when you think about the performances of Reagan, Sonny Bono, Gopher (Fred Grandy), Arnold, and Eastwood, they look pretty good.

No personal corruption allegations. Decent manners, tough but fair campaigns without the dirty tricks and hatred we see from the Bush & Clinton camps. They even more or less accomplished what they set out to do.

So why all the angst over Al Franken? How could he be worse than Bush II or Clinton II? Maybe he should skip the Senate and run for President!

H*ll, maybe all of our politians ought to come from Hollywood. They could hardly do worse than the ones we have now....

If Minnesota elects that dope, I'm outta here.

My prediciton is that he will be act as "quite the statesman" and play it very cool for the next year...not showing his true colors.

Well, there is something called "class" in old Hollywood, which involves to a degree attention to their craft. Newman and Redford are of that fraternity.

It occured to me that I haven't heard of British actors trying to get into politics. You know, Helen Miriam or Clive Owen going for Parliament or some such nonsense.

Bono is the closest to my recollection. Oh, and I guess Madonna when she feels like putting on a fake British accent.

"Franken was born in New York City into a Jewish family, and grew up in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, in suburban Minneapolis. He attended Saint Louis Park High School until the 10th grade. He graduated in 1969 from The Blake School, where he was on the wrestling team. He attended Harvard University and graduated cum laude in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in government.

Franken met his wife, Franni, in his first year at college at a Harvard-Simmons mixer, and they have been together ever since. They have a daughter, Thomasin, and a son, Joe (both attended New York City's prestigious Dalton School). Joe attends Princeton University and Thomasin is a public school teacher in New York City, with a degree in sociology from Harvard University. The Frankens reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota." Better a clown who admits what he is than 535 who will not.

Franken is a leftist, which I'm opposed to on many grounds. Nevertheless, I'd like to see some of those who've voiced personal attacks against him, post actual opposite positions based on facts.

The kind like this, "I support Norm Coleman because he represents (enter Coleman's position here)".

In all likehood, that will never happen. Most "partisans" post with their emotions, not their intellect when it comes to politics.

As an example, I find it amusing when people say "Why should Hollywoodians be believed when it comes to politics?' when the real question is why anyone, from any profession be believed when it comes to politics? What prepares a person for public office?

Pat, we realize you don't subscribe to the "lesser of two evils" doctrine, but that's Coleman. They will and do both suck but Coleman will suck a little less, while sucking a little less often. There is a much greater likelyhood of Coleman supporting my positions even if only by pandering or luck.

When you support evil, that's all you get.

There is no "lesser".
