New American dollar
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17104542/
Personally, I like the idea of dollar coins, even though I rarely carry any sort of cash on me. I also want an American twoneey, but that's another matter... Do you guys think people will use it this time or will it just go straight to coin collectors? |

I would have used the last dollar coin if I would have ever seen any in circulation! I have never even seen the last dollar coin in person. Just on television.

Many vending machines still treat all dollar coins like quarters.

I collect all the new coins I get my hands on. State quarters, nickles, dollars...etc. For me, its just a fun way to save up some spare change. About every three to five years the wife and I will go to Reno or Tahoe and use it in the casinos. I think the last time we emptied the jug for a trip like that we had over $700 bucks. It was like having free money to spend.

We've had $1 & $2 coins for quite a while now... "Loonies" & "Toonies"
My wife loves them. It's easy for me to lose five or six bucks when I lay down for a nap, and she keeps the change that she finds under the couch cushions.

I have a feeling these will go the same way and previous dollar coins, even if they do have George on them. Personally, I would rather keep 5 to 8 dollar bills in my wallet than that many dollar coins in my pocket.

i like the idea of a dollar coin...but it needs to be bigger like the old ones. the small quarter size ones are pointless. like why is the dime smaller than a penny in the first place.
get a few 1/2 dollar ones every time I'm in Vegas ![]()

Dollar coins are for a time when a dollar had buying power. I doubt that they will make it in popular general circulation.
When I worked retail, any Sac coins that customers brought in were immediately put into the safe in exchange for "real" money. The coin tray might hold $10 worth of coin - while the bill tray holds more like $50 of singles. Nobody wants to mess with them. EDIT: Turns out that the Sac will still be minted with the new coins. I hate coins of any denominations. Too much jingling and jangling in the pocket. Paper money only and let's round to the nearest buck...everytime I buy something it comes out to .09 or something and I get 91 cents. Beautiful.
