Wife contributes to my watch fetish

I have always liked to collect watches (nothing crazy costly) and I have several from Tag and Ebel to even cheap Timex but until now they have always been procured by me. Tonight, the wife surprises me with a new piece. Not the most expensive in the world but there’s something about it that draws me in. I think she did pretty damn good!!!

I am watch guy also, but like more obsure models. I have a couple Russian Poljots, 2 Trias watches , basically German watch with who knows movements, and a flying tourbillon (not swiss).
I want a Poljot Sturmanskie Gagarin soon. Will post pics shortly.

Very cool. They have made a series- there's a 356, 911 RSR and I think a couple of others. I just bought this...

I really wanted a Tag Heuer Carrera Chrono in blue, but $2,600 is a lot of money!

Cheers,

Paul.

Not when you import them direct, most of the price is mark up. True swiss tours are outrageous.

Saw a real Breguet in London, could not believe I was seeing a $120k watch

The chinese are making great tourbillon copies and several centre spun tourbillons are popping up online. Still in the 2-3k range, and even those its a chinese movement its still a centre tour and some are even automatic..

Scottmandue - how well does your Seiko automatic keep time? After years of living on a boat and cruising, mine doesn't look nearly that nice but I still like it.

It's lousy at keeping time, though - even for an automatic.

Columbus, Magellon, et-al would have killed for one of todays cheap digital watches. A sat-nav unit? You'd have owned an empire! Watches as jewely? Kind of like any other status item, IMO... I just look at mine to see what time it is...

Very nice. Let's see, I have a Rolex (30 years old), a Movado museum, an orange Seiko monster diver and two Carreras. My favorite right now is a red Prague chronometer I bought on Overstock for 15 bucks. The Rolex and Seiko are automatics. The others are quartz-battery, and keep better time.
