Opinions on this trade?
A good friend has had a Healy 3000 in the long process of resto for many years. The project has stalled. I think the body is sound and the motor too but it is completely disassembled and has no interior. Other than that, I'm not sure. He want's to trade with a friend for a P car 924. Personally I never really cared much for the 924 or later versions of it but that's just me. I'm concerned that he's not getting value for value at all but thought I'd toss it out there.
Were it me, I'd try to sell the Healy or pay someone to finish it and then keep or sell it. He may not have the $ to invest in that though... Completed it would be worth a mint. I think he'd sell outright if anyone is interested. Whaddya all think...?

Bad trade - Healy 3000 is a marvelous car and arguably King of the vintage english heap where the 924 is, well just really a heap. Dispite its current state there is likely a pretty sizable market that would buy a disassembled 3000 at a premium over the 924. Just my opinion....

The Healy will retain it's value over the long haul. It's a true classic.
The 924 will be totaled if a window breaks. |

A completely disassembled Healey in need of restoration is still worth more in pieces than any excellent condition 924.

Agreed. I once had a 924. I considered it just something to fiddle around with, nothing special. Probably never see one on the block at these world famous auto auctions.

Thanks guys. That's my strong opinion too. I'll pass this thread on to him and maybe that'll convince him. Personally, I think he should sell as is and buy a decent 911 if he wants a Porsche.

The engine block on a healey 3000 is worth 1-2k on its own.

I never knew that the AH 3000 was the equivalent of the 924 in it's a day! My dad has a nice 64 BJ8 in his garage and I'm sure it 's worth a hair more then a 924! But that's just my guess!!

I'd say that the guy that is getting rid of a 60's English basket case and getting a solid, reliable, well-balanced P-car is coming out way ahead.

As much as I liked my 924 and lavished attention on it (three trophies at local car shows) it was not all that great a car. Electrical problems up the wazoo for a start, and nasty little expen$ive bits and pieces in the fuel injection system. The best aspect of the 924 was the engine. Underpowered, but practically unbreakable. Actually, the 944 is a bit better, but nothing I would EVER recommend to anyone without deep pockets, better than average mechanical skills and infinite patience.
