Sligtly OT, but have you heard of David Brown Tractors? The DB in Aston Martiin models like the new DB9, stands for David Brown, who owned Aston Martin in the 50's through the 70's. Here's a pic of model of an 880 diesel.

someone up above/before was talking about underpowered, well, the Porsches of the time were putting out 60-90 hp (until you get into Carrera land, even those were like 110-120 IIRC).

Besides, horsepower is for foks who can't keep their speed up in the corners :)

The 356's weren't pulling cultivators either. My satement stands. My JD tractor has 20 HP, and I know it's limitations. Granted 100 hp is a LOT in any tractor. Aside from it's collectibility, there are better choices in tractors from the same era. Anybody ever hear of a "Silver King"?
They could hit 45 mph, in that day it was a virtual rocket for a tractor.

That's what I want - a two ton sled with no suspension that will hit 45 mph.

As a farm boy, with relatives who farmed also (what else?), this thread is bringing back some old memories.

On topic, a neighbor, who restores Massey Harris tractors from the 40s & 50s, has aquired a Porsche junior in rough shape, but will continue to work on it between his MHs. It seems to have no compression, (new rings and cylinder) but he'll figure it out eventually.

That Farmall (an early 50s?)looks just like the one I stalled and slid down a wet slope one spring (I had throttled it back too far, trying to crawl down the hill)

The David Brown line, when they were sold to Case in the early 70s, were painted white. I spent many hours working with an 880, pulling logs out of the woods, when I was 19. The 880 had three shifters, one was a regular 'H' with 1-3 plus reverse, another was 'L' - 'H', for low and high range, the third was 'S' (slow) and 'normal'. For working row crops, this gave you some real creeper gears. In all, 12 forward speeds and 4 reverse!

They used to crank out those Farmalls like hot rolls just down the street from my office in Rock Island. No more, the farm implement business took it in the shorts in the 80s and many plants closed down, including Farmall and International Harvester.
They're still making Deeres, though. I saw a trainfull of big, big JD wheat harvesters headed south some time ago, I believe they were part of a large order destined for the Ukraine.
Anyway, nice tractor ya got there.
