Moses and you other Mac Parralels users READ
Have you guys checked out the latest build with Coherence?
It's friggin awesome. How do I explain this? You boot Parralels and you have a new "window" mode available. Coherence gets rid of the Windows Desktop completely. It just leaves the taskbar at the bottom. You can launch apps and they run in their own windows on top of the the OS X desktop as if they were an OS X native app. If it were not for the ugly Windows frames you would not know the difference. And the apps even show up in when you command tab to cycle thru your open apps. It seems to be a bit of a hit on the redraw but the way these guys address stuff they'll have that worked out in a month. Check it out, Windows Media Player, IE and Kapersky alert box floating on my OS X desktop. No more looking at that nasty UI from Redmond. Just discovered something else, you can also drag n drop from the desktop straight into an open XP window and vice versa and contextual menus pop up in their native OS. Wow! Is it an upgrade? How do I get it?

Look for an email from them. I got one the other day. |
Found another feature.
Transporter, Under File you'll find Import which allows you to attach to an XP computer over the network and it will copy the target PC and turn it into a disc image on your Mac. So if you were switching from Windows to a Mac you can now clone your old PC and have it available in Parralles. COOL. |
Just installed the new version with Coherence. Amazing! It seems to run even faster now, too.
I can't think of any reason to own a PC anymore. |
Have you noticed what happens to the Parallels icon in your dock when you close Parallels?

Any hints on settings to optimize performance?
I only use windoze to access a secure network that accepts windows explorer. If I keep the VM running, my Mac get a bit buggy. MacMini dual Intel core. |
I installed the upgrade then booted my win xp instance. A message box popped up saying the parallels tools were out of sync and to install the new tools. I started the new tools install. Another window popped up saying new hardware (video controller) had been discovered and a parrallels video driver was displayed in a dropdown list. I picked it and proceeded with the install. A reboot was required after the tools install completed so I did. The instance no longer boots. Windows logo appears for a few seconds then window goes black and dead. Parallels support (which has been entirely unsatisfactory in their response) said to boot in safe mode. Unfortunately f8 or fn-f8 have no effect on the Windows boot process now. Looks like I'm hosed.
I like the new features but am not too happy with the product at the moment :-) System is an intel macbook pro. |
