Yup, Florida has all the nut jobs...

http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/ammo-weapons-tunnel-found-in-home/20070302184109990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

Quote:
NORCO, Calif. (March 1) - More than 1 million rounds of ammunition, a cache of weapons and a tunnel were found at a man's home after an explosive fire that forced a neighborhood evacuation, authorities said Friday.

Crews worked to fortify the tunnel, which measured 5 feet wide by 8 feet long, to ensure it was safe. It appeared to be at least 10 feet deep and led into a back yard, authorities said.

The fire Thursday afternoon at the home in Norco, about 45 miles east of Los Angeles, caused some of the ammunition to explode.

The man tried to run back into the house after firefighters arrived and had to be restrained by sheriff's deputies, Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Juan Zamora said.

After the blaze was extinguished, crews discovered metal and wooden boxes of ammunition for shotguns, small handguns and assault rifles.

On Friday, sheriff's deputies and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives combed the house for evidence.

Dozens of metal and cardboard boxes filled with ammunition for shotguns, small handguns and assault rifles sat in a driveway. Two of the assault rifles were illegal, Zamora said.

The man had no permit for 75 pounds of black gunpowder that was also recovered, Zamora said.

No arrests had been made. The man, whose identity was not released, was taken to a hospital where he will receive a psychological evaluation, Zamora said.

Last April, authorities said they found more than 1,300 weapons and 89,000 rounds of ammunition in the San Bernardino County home of a man who claimed to belong to a militant group with aims to overthrow Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Robert Ferro of Upland faces counts of unlawfully owning and failing to register guns.

So what if he had a million rounds , a billion or a damn ga-zillion, what law has he broken,,,,

If he wants to buy up a supply and store it till it is useless so what, if the ammo is of a legal type and legally purchased where is the law that states what quanity he can have,,,,

As to the weapons , same thing if they are of a legal type and legally obtained who is to say how many a person can have,,,,

Only in Commiefornia ....

If the psychological evaluation reveals that he actually is a nutjob, I think it would be a safe measure to take his toys away.

Er...well the guy did have 75 POUNDS of black powder in the house. That would be illegal in any state because of the amounts involved. Sounds like this fella had a screw loose.

Not here as far as I know, but I'd not have that much anywhere near my house.

Based on what? He owned firearms and ammunition for them, that's not an indication of mental health problems. Owning machine guns is protected by the Second Amendment, but that protection is not enforced against the states as it should be, still no indication of mental health problems.

Looks like the government is confiscating his wealth, and claiming illegal status for some of his firearms. Like at Waco, the BATF will claim illegal status for firearms, and the judge will disallow the defense request for independent verification.

WTF is wrong with you guys?

Look, I pay my NRA dues, I shoot a least once a week. I probably have 500+ rounds in my house as we speak. But I DO NOT support every joker out there having a house full of ammo. 75 POUNDS of black powder in a residential neighborhood. Really? This guy is having is constitutional rights violated because the cops are removing 75 pounds of explosives from his house?

Why is it that certain gun folks need to defend every lunatic out there, claiming that the guys 'rights' are being violated. Its the same kind of crap you get with the NEA supporting teachers who should be fired.

At what point did common ****** sense pack up and leave this country?

His house was on fire and rounds were going off in the fire, resulting in the neighborhood being evacuated.

If this guy and the other Cuban overthrow guy are not nutjobs then I am Sally Fields.

I see. Because you don't know the effects of 75 pounds of blackpowder, which is no danger beyond about 50 feet unless it's contained in a pressure resistant vessel (the containers it comes in aren't), or that ammo isn't dangerous beyond the building it's in, so you've gone a bit hysterical resulting from that lack of knowledge.

And last, you can no more trust the government's "factoids" concerning this than you can depend on a Chimp to revise the General Theory of Relativity. Knowledge is power. Never trust government, ever.

See Karl Drega's story.

I have this 30 gallon gas tank here at the vineyard for refueling the ATV, the Z-trak, and assorted other gas powered machines. It has significantly more explosive power than 75 lbs. of blackpowder.

75# of black powder can cause a natural gas line to explode, potentially destroying the neighboring houses.

The guy has not been arrested yet.

Since the two illegal assault rifles will make him a felon, I doubt giving him back all that stuff is really the best thing to do...

No more than the gasoline in your car.

The weapons haven't been proven illegal yet, have they?

True, but we don't park our cars in home made tunnels that go into the neighbors yard.

The article mentions that two were. I'm sure ATF has seen an automatic weapon before and knows what to look for.

i have assorted rounds from .22 up to .45-70. i have been making my own black powder since i was eleven and learned the recipe in the encyclopaedia britannica.
does all this make me a risk to my fellow humans? it's going to be forty six years since my eleventh birthday in a week or so. i haven't maimed or killed yet, but the day is not over.
i guess that in this day and age i would be considered a terrorist.
