Hmmm...only second to "the missus"

Also on the "hate" list - "ol' man" (as in husband). I didn't marry an "ol' man", so I'm not gonna call him one...

Ha...14yo son's favorite is "you're joking"...

My reply is usually "no dear, if I was there would be a punch line".

And ALL the kids preface everything with "like", even when they aren't making a comparison - drives me crazy!

Miss 9yo started with the "kewl" thing; coupled to the "like" thing...it's slowing - the threat of a pepper tongue maybe working (I am such a cruel Mum!).

When I was a kid everything was "tough", That's so tough! Then it was "*****in". Who the hell thinks of these stupid words? The same idiot that thought of "super" and "groovy"?

I must admit that when I was a teenager my (now ex) wife and I engaged in some pretty nauseating babytalk. Makes me a little sick still to think of the things we said and did.

YES WAY! Listen to this drivel for long enough and you'd resort to it too . These crappy meaningless words were popping into her every sentence - half the time I couldn't get her point; it had lost its meaning with all this "punctuation".

I remember after chewing out my 11 year old daughter for something (whatever it was, I've forgotten). She looked at me like she was bored to DEATH and responded, "...and I care because?". Writing it I want to slap her still! At the time I would have but it struck me so damned funny I couldn't stop laughing for a couple of minutes. As it happened, she thought she was being so cool and attitudy by saying it and my inadvertant laughing at it (she took it as laughing at her) broke her of it instantly. She never did it again.

Lisa, My condolences on raising an undoubtedly lovely little girl that will soon be an (attitudy?) teenager. The good news is my "little girl" is now 24 and about to graduate from USC Law School on Mother's Day. I once thought I'd never see the day. Now we're as close as a father and daughter can be.
Here's Katie:

The kids around here use the word "actually" about every third word and it's actually driving me nuts! If you watch the Disney Channel, you'll notice that the actors/actresses in their shows talk like idiots (typical teen "dumb talk") and it's written into the script. So that's where the kids are hearing it, then using it at school, etc...

Dan,

Gorgeous and funny story (to which I can easily relate). You have one stunning daughter there and speaking from personal experience, there is nothing to compare to the special bond between father and daughter. It's a love so fierce; full of protection (both ways). I wouldn't trade a minute of time I spent with my Dad - it was all so special .

As to my Charlotte - well, yes, attitude...she has plenty of that already but I tend to allow her some as she has an older and a younger brother who tend to gang up on her a little (well a lot really). She needs to "give some back" from time to time. Mind you, these same boys (especially the older one) would be the first to stand up for her when necessary - it's just the sibling way .

I was going to write something here but I think I lost my train of thought given some pictures or something I saw above. Anyway, Dan, if Ms. attitude is looking for an associate position doing commercial/construction litigation, drop me a line.

Oh, I was going to say that the term "wifey" has a good connotation to my wife and I because I first heard it in junior high when I swiped a copy of Judy Blume's book Wifey, and my wife first heard the term from me when I showed her the book. We have used the term playfully between us ever since.
