Remember Pat's prediction: Bush, Cheney, and Rove will be sent to Gitmo.

CNN: "A federal jury today found Lewis "Scooter" Libby guilty of obstruction of justice, making false statements and perjury in the investigation into how Valerie Plame Wilson's identity as a CIA operative was exposed. He was found not guilty on one count of making false statements. "

lendaddy 03-06-2007 08:20 AM

I think he very much regrets not taking the stand now.

legion 03-06-2007 08:23 AM

I think "obstruction of justice" is the biggest BS charge there is. It's like the prosecutor all but admitting that he can't convict on a real crime. I thought it was BS for Martha Steward, I think it is BS here.

Porsche-O-Phile 03-06-2007 08:30 AM

They'd go after Cheney and Bush too, but they'd probably both be found mentally incompetent to stand trial.

Jim Richards 03-06-2007 08:31 AM

It looks like sentencing will happen sometime in the second half of May. Will we hear the sounds of a canary singing this Spring?

Dueller 03-06-2007 08:32 AM

Prediction: He appeals, is allowed to post bond and be free while pending, appeal will be denied about 18 months from now, Shrub will pardon him.

Next scandal: The firing of 9 U.S. Attoneys this week who were agressively pursuing Republican cronies.

lendaddy 03-06-2007 08:44 AM

The dark cloud for the dems silver lining is that Fitz says it's over and he's going back to his day job.

You guys continue working on the Libby defense/excuse/explanation/denial thing. In the meantime, I'll grab a beer and wait for the next expose'. There will be an unending string. The US Attorney firing thing will be quite entertaining. Of course, to some folks here, those firing will not appear to be politically motivated. But to folks who are liberal and/or objective, it's going to be ugly. The guy in Seattle who was fired was, by all accounts (except for the dismissal of course) was an extremely effective and widely respected attorney. His evaluations reflected that. And then he was fired. For obviously political reasons.

You guys seem to have a problem with courts "legislating from the bench," though I feel pretty confident you don't really know what that means. If Congress and Legislatures would stop avoiding the making of clear laws, then the courts would not have to do their work for them.

But here we have an instance of the political branch of gubmit deliberately interfering with the judicial system for obviously political reasons. Nothing to see here.....move along.........

I don't know that Libby, if he lost on appeal and had to report to prison, would even be in long enough for Bush to pardon him. He's looking at 1.5-3 yrs. and would probably serve about half of whatever he gets.

Dueller 03-06-2007 08:50 AM

Legion...time to change avatar. How 'bout this one?
