Hey PWD Whatcha Gona Do?

PWD ya got all that loot from selling your beloved 1972 911S. What are ya gona do with it? In spite of all the wankers who have decided that the early cars are the next best thing to s{king Co[k, its hard to imagine that some car with the Porsche Marque won't tempt U? Something that U can drive with out cringing everytime U get behind the wheel. Maybe a 912 or 356? Or maybe even a nice mid 80s car.

So PWD tell U what your thinkin?

Why are you trolling like this? I've spoken with Paul on the phone and I think I see his point in all this. The P-car scene changed and left him behind, and I say that in favor. The scene changed in SoCal many years ago and people have lambasted that time and again on many of these bbs's. No one waves or flashes lights, that sort of thing. The great chasm between water and air cooled.

I speculate that PWD will continue to enjoy his pick up, maybe even get a newer one if the old one starts to give him trouble. One thing you don't need in the autumn years of life is a PITA vehicle.

Tabbydoll, I've stated it here...I don't want another P-car. Hey, once you've had the best, why go for less? (a bit of tongue in cheek here guys, let's not start a which model is best debate)

Life isn't all about cars. Once garage space opens up, we may buy another driver, or we may not. Our basic vehicle needs are well cared for as it is.

Milt said it well...the Porsche community, from the factory on down to the one club, PCA, was "family" back in the day. Back in the day before PCA passed the 10,000 members mark. Back before there was even a 356 registry. Today it's not such a pleasant clubs scene. "you can't go home again".

I'm getting tired of the hassles of maintaining the car, being 80-100 miles from a good shop, having to mail order all the maintenance supplies, and strange as it sounds, very tired of the attention the car gets from strangers when I go for a drive.

Tabby, as I've stated many times...owning the car was NEVER about money with me. You probably have trouble understanding that because your life seems centered around "stuff". Mine isn't.

So...I seriously answered your trolling. Make all the boorish fun you like.

Sorry Jim...no Cayman S...I'm waiting for that hot 4 door sedan to come out. Perhaps it and a Cayenne would make the perfect duo to attend today's Porsche functions in? I'll order both in Black.

Have you actually sold that uber-beautiful little jewel ??

I can understand what are saying, but the core of owning a vintage 911 - the driving pleasure - will you not miss that ? Or is it possible to grow out of it, as it were ?

Can I ask how much you sold the 911S for?

I have a very original excellent condition 911T that I'll be selling in the spring and I'm trying to gauge prices. Thanks.

Livi, it's very possible to grow out of things as society evolves around you. Not all evolution is good. When I enjoyed my cars Oregon had a "basic rule" speed limit, and it's population was 1/4 of today's. Government then respected individual liberties. Today if one is caught going more than 40 mph over the posted speed, or above 100 mph, it's an automatic loss of license and a minimum $1,000 fine. Jail time is at the ticketing officer's discretion. It's just not fun to own a high performance car under such restrictive conditions. Oregon has become a nanny state, with precious little individual freedom left.

This is only one of the reasons..another is that at age 63, putting the car on jackstands and crawling under to do basic maintenance and bottom cleaning just isn't the fun it was when I was 33. Downright painful sometimes, truth be known.

Dense traffic conditions make it more difficult to find a place to enjoy the car. I recently drove from my home to Salem, Oregon and back...an 80 mile round trip. I honestly doubt that a Ford GT could have made the trip in 5 minutes better time than our old Ford Ranger did...how could it in bumper to bumper conditions?

Things change....so yes, I've sold the car. No money or title has changed hands yet, we're waiting for Evren to be able to schedule a trip here, so we can both arrange and oversee the shipping of the car and it's spares, p-car books & magazines, etc.
Evren has given his word, I've given mine. We trust each other. It's a done deal.

On-Ramp, you can ask, but I'm not telling. This would create problems. Besides, it wouldn't be comparable to another car. Not bragging here, it's just that I've never seen another 1972 911S coupe in the same never repainted condition as mine. Like Bruce says in his valuation reports, there is Excellent, then there is beyond excellent. I really feel mine qualifies for the latter. I could have gotten more elsewhere. Being sure the car will remain in Evren's hands was worth a lot to me. Like I said, I was never into Porsches because of the money.

I am truly curious PWD...not Trolling, nor making fun. For me my old car has nothing to do with a Club Scene, I loved them before I ever heard of the PCA, Registry or any other organization, and have never belonged to anything but the Early Registry. That is until they kicked me out.

Also when I did drive my 911 it was a joy to drive, and that is a solitary bonding of man and machine. Which has nothing to do with being Social.

The only thing that would have got me to sell my car would have been the loss of enjoyment in driving it, or perhaps if it became more trouble in keeping it up than the enjoyment I got out of it. What other people said or thought or even how the club scene had changed would make no diff to me at all. Its about me and my car.

I've had a Rolls Royce, it is a car where U get noticed, and after awhile I got tired of it and have chosen a Ford Truck as a daily driver, partially because no one notices U in it. I found that most people don't notice U in an old 911, it is just another old P car to them.

In the past coupla years I have come to the place where I think how many S&W mdl 27s do I need. I got 2 postwars and 2 prewar Registerd Mags, I don't need anymore. Perhaps I am just gong to refine what I allready have, or fill in a blank where one exists when I find it. Maybe just to keep my hand in it will be a little in and out of the collection as it strikes my fancy.

If I did not collect Spoons I would literally be out Dredging for Gold in the hills. So it has to do with the search and aqquistion more than the the stuff itself.

That's one of the reasons I have. Tabbydoll, life ain't a dress rehearsal...you only have one shot at it. By all means, please yourself. It pleases me that Evren will be pleased with my old car. Dig?

OK so now that the P car obession is outa your system, what is next?
Is it going to be some travel, cooking classes, community service, taking up golf? What do U see yourself doing. Sixty three is a place where owning things becomes less important, that I allready know from my friends.

As U get into old age..a good meal and a good BM becopmes more important. Also experiencing things or seeing things becomes more important than owning or aqquiring.

Travel is out...Otherwise, the world is open to Cindy & I. If it's a "good" day, we'll wake up and ask ourselves what we want to do on that day. Our personal situation, because of health reasons, doesn't allow scheduling and planning. There are "good" and "not so good" days, so we've learned not to make any scheduling promises in order to not have to cancel and disappoint people. (edit) HOOT! An old "senior" joke: I used to wish for a BMW...now I just wish for a B.M. That, and hope to sink either the 8 or the 9 on the snap, depending on the game.

I was not aware of your age. I have probably 'grown out of' mine too long before that. And I 100% agree - life is so much more than one single object, even if that single object can be worth wile in a certain period. The objects for once needs change. They all have expiring dates. The only parts that do not is personal relations (well mostly).

I wouldn´t expect you to, but sticking around here - Porscheless or not - would very much enriching this place.
