FWIW, my wallet was left in the car as a total brain fart. I usually have it in my coat, but had it out to get coffee this morning. Cripes I don't even like to carry that much cash, but I was buying a used camera right after work.

Even if the car had been locked they probably would've busted a window for a wallet in plain view. Like I said... my fault, but I'm still pissed that someone stole my cash.

Also, I don't "leave it unlocked" so much as I dont have a fking set of keys for it. I have a hidden switch to start it and disable the steering lock. In fact, if it hadn't been for my pre-emptive and hidden hotwiring job, it would have been stolen last month.

My brother has a camera that we might use with some "bait". They were really dissmissive when I called the garage today. If it is one of their employees, I could have better luck baiting them than complaining to the manager and having them wise up.

happened to me in miami back in '92. was at work at the univ. of miami, but left my '86 cj-7 parked at a metrorail station. suddenly it hits me at work that i don't have my keys. by the time i race to the metrorail and get back, i can already see from the window where i'd parked..an empty space. took a few days, but i could count on lousy u-joints. kids were hotdogging it, one broke, the driveshaft fell and they abandoned it on us-1, but not before using the equivalent of a crowbar to remove the cheap radio and ruin my metal dash. then the towing company appeared to have swapped batteries while in storage. i mean, come on, what thief is gonna steal your battery and replace with a piece of **** one?? the storage facility denied any cumplicity..and they were behind 6 inches of glass anyway. lesson learned on my part.

Six inches of glass? Small shaped charge, the spall does the "dirty work".

Not sure, but willing to bet it's not that different than in many states. It would depend of previous offences etc...

Despite the common perception, it's not completely looney up here. I happened upon a B&E a few years ago, and helped jump the guy and hold him down till the cops came. First offense and he got a 3 yr sentence, but did 2 after doing rehab & other programs
