Illinois in Chaos

This is what you get when the Dems have the state House, Senate, and governorship:

1) A bill to effectively ban all semi-automatic weapons in the state.

2) A bill that will effectively put all gun dealers in the state out of business.

3) A bill that will overhaul the state's tax system. Businesses will be taxed on gross reciepts instead of net income. This tax windfall is going to be used to pay for universal healthcare in the state.

The governor is chomping at the bit to sign these three bills.

We still don't know if he knows where Springfield is yet.

Does not surprise me in the least. They feign innocence when the gun issue is brought up but they want a defenseless public that the US Govt protects in everything that they do in life. The Govt should control and supervise every facet of your life if you are following the Democratic platform, weak as it is.

Hope you guys in IL stop this. There is nothing good going on here.

Our Governess here in Michigan found a way to circumvent our gun laws and Right-to-Carry - she's made the economy so bad that no one can afford to buy a gun or ammo anyway. I'm convinced of this. Why else would someone be in charge of a State for 5 years with no results and no plan as the economy crumbles around her?

Our economy is (and has been) numero 50 out of 50 yet she was re-elected in a landslide .... it's pretty much like living in the bizzaro world. Her latest turnaround plan: institute a NEW TAX on service businesses!! Our only remaining major bank, Comerica, decided to move to Texas this week. I'm sure many of the large insurance companies are making contingency plans to move out as well if the service tax goes thru.

Yesterday, it was announced that Property Taxes will increase - the 'taxed value' of homes will increase 3.7% (the rate of inflation, supposedly), yet home values have been DOWN for at least 2 years!! There is nothing selling or being built.

To make it appear she is actually doing something, Granholm is currently hosting Clinton-style staged Townhall meetings where she fields softball questions from supporters. She's the political personification of the Dumb Blond Joke.

That was B2's approach, too. All his appearances were staged and dissenters were keep far away. They (his security team) even strong-armed away those infrequent dissenters that somehow managed to make it into B2's appearances. It was in all the news, well, I can't speak for FOX.

Curt, it's a pisser that your voters cannot elect someone with a clue. Old style liberalism will not work in MI, as it hasn't worked in New Orleans. The economic base is falling apart and new ideas to spur economic recovery are needed. And IL's lawmakers are way off base, too. I really have no idea what problem they think they are trying to solve.

You need to dump Chicago as New York needs to dump the People's Republic of New York City.

This state is going to hell in a handbasket.

Problem is, when Republicans do regain control, they never repeal all of the expensive social programs, high taxes, or restrictions on the 2nd Ammendment.

It always amazes me how many friends of Dailey and Blagoyevich can go to prison, yet they never seem to know what's going on...

Woman with business ties to governor's wife charged with fraud

Associated Press
Published March 8, 2007, 1:37 PM CST

CHICAGO -- A woman with business connections to Gov. Rod Blagojevich's wife faces six felony charges stemming from alleged billing fraud for work her company conducted for a state agency through no-bid contracts.

Anita Mahajan, 55, of Chicago, owned the now-defunct K.K. Bio-Science Inc. It was a urinalysis company that performed drug testing for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services since at least the mid-1990s, according to state records.

Mahajan was charged with theft, money laundering, wire fraud and making a false statement on a vendor application, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman in the state's attorney's office.

Mahajan also was accused of organizing a continuing financial crimes enterprise, Simonton said. Two of the charges are Class X felonies, Simonton said, meaning that probation is not a sentencing option.

Mahajan, who surrendered to authorities Wednesday, was scheduled to appear in Cook County bond court on Thursday afternoon.

The governor's wife has ties to Mahajan. Patti Blagojevich, a licensed real estate broker, earned $113,700 in commissions in 2006 through deals involving Mahajan and her banker husband, Amrish Mahajan. He has donated $10,000 to the governor's political campaigns.

There is no indication that the real estate deals with Patti Blagojevich are related to Anita Mahajan's charges.

Mahajan's attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.

The Blagojevich administration has defended the governor's wife, saying she has no control over state contracts and has a right to conduct her private real estate business.

Mahajan's company has held annual contracts for urinalysis screenings with clients of the DCFS for at least the past 15 years. The company ended its contract with DCFS on Jan. 9 during a review by the agency's inspector general.

"Our inspector generals that we put in place, laws that we passed police the system," Blagojevich said Thursday during an appearance at a Chicago school to draw attention to his proposed education spending plan.

Department of Children and Family Services spokesman Kendall Marlowe said Thursday that "the system is working the way it should," because the agency's inspector general uncovered the issue.

"We're pleased that this case is moving forward," he added. "The department remains committed to seeking full restitution on behalf of Illinois taxpayers."

According to a search warrant first reported by the Chicago Tribune on Feb. 1, investigators from the FBI and Cook County searched the office of K.K. Bio-Science Inc. for evidence of fraud, money laundering and a continuing criminal enterprise.

It's hard to say if the IL Gov. or his wife had any idea about this person's criminal activity. Mahajan might have wanted to do real estate deals with the Gov.'s wife to lend an air of respectability to her business and mask scrutiny of her criminal activities. If there's more of a tie-in that's uncovered, then the Gov. needs to be held accountable. It's always a pleasure to see crooked politicos hang by their nads.

Jim, I agree.

But this has literally happened dozens of times with both Dailey and Blago. The last one (Tony Rezko--there was even an Obama tie-in there), was only two months ago. If they aren't criminals themselves, they certainly seem to surround themselves with them.

Engler ran the MI budget into the ground, not mention every road in the state, and then handed it off to the new Democratic leader to solve. Combine that with the Detroits mega-industries going into the tank and the state has some real problems on its hands.

I guess it makes for good politics to leave ruin for your opponent but its no surprise MI is feeling the hurt.

I've decided to accept fate. Illinois is my new mother:

Mother, do you think they'll drop the bomb?
Mother, do you think they'll like this song?
Mother, do you think they'll try to break my balls?
Ooooowaa Mother, should I build a wall?
Mother, should I run for President?
Mother, should I trust the government?
Mother, will they put me in the firing line?
Ooooowaa Is it just a waste of time?
Hush, my baby. Baby, don't you cry.
Momma's gonna make all of your nightmares come true.
Momma's gonna put all of her fears into you.
Momma's gonna keep you right here under her wing.
She won't let you fly, but she might let you sing.
Momma's gonna keep Baby cozy and warm.
Oooo Babe.
Oooo Babe.
Ooo Babe, of course Momma's gonna help build a wall.
Mother, do you think she's good enough,
For me?
Mother, do you think she's dangerous,
To me?
Mother will she tear your little boy apart?
Ooooowaa Mother, will she break my heart?
Hush, my baby. Baby, don't you cry.
Momma's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you.
Momma won't let anyone dirty get through.
Momma's gonna wait up until you get in.
Momma will always find out where you've been.
Momma's gonna keep Baby healthy and clean.
Oooo Babe.
Oooo Babe.
Ooo Babe, you'll always be Baby to me.
Mother, did it need to be so high?

Chris --
Speaking from the Peoples' Republic of New York, I know from whence you speak.

Hence, my pending re-lo from this socialist experiment. Perhaps you should consider leaving your share of the tax and regulatory burden behind on the Illinoians (Illini?) too stupid to know to get out?

I have a very secure, well-paying job doing something I enjoy. All of my friends and much of my family is in this state. Leaving would be hard.

That being said, I will seriously consider it if SB16 and/or the gross receipts tax passes.
