A few comments on my post, and Fastpat's remarks:

I saw a TV documentary on gun control that put the per capita guns about the same in the U.S. and Canada, and the gun violence in Canada a small fraction of the the violence here. And there was some discussion of Canadians' view of American news--by Canadians.

The internet reaches a small fraction of the society. And a lot of the discussion is agenda-ridden.

"Freedom of the press" is an argument used for every media excess. The NAB yells it in DC every time the politicians want to do something about TV advertising--which is where all the money goes in political campaigns these days. The networks are making billions. The trouble began in the 1980s when Reagan's FCC removed the balance restrictions on political advertising. Opposing views no longer required. That opened the floodgates to all the dishonest negative stuff that does nothing for democracy.

God created man..
Mr.'s smith and wesson made man equal

you are a thief. you arrive on a street looking for a house to rob. You bought an illegal gun despite the ban. House A says "Guns kill, support the ban" House B says "protected by smith and wesson."
which house to rob?

House B as soon as the residents leave, guns bring a very good return on the black market.

Angering more anti-self defense rights types, the Million Mom March branch of Brady Handgun Control, Inc. spews their hate filled message. It shows why the District should only have a city government, and not allowed to vote above that. In fact, why does the District allow residents in the first place?

WASHINGTON, March 12 /PRNewswire- USNewswire/ -- The District of
Columbia Chapter of the Million Mom March (MMM DC) is strongly
opposed to the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C.
Circuit to overturn the city's gun laws. The court declared the
District's longstanding handgun ban unconstitutional on Friday in a
2-1 decision in the case of Parker v. District of Columbia.
Provisions governing the safe storage of firearms in the home were
also overturned.

The decision marks the first time in history that a federal appeals
court has struck down a gun law on Second Amendment grounds. The
majority opinion directly contradicted Supreme Court precedent in the
1939 case of U.S. v. Miller. There, the highest court in the land
held that the "possession or use" of a weapon must bear "some
reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well
regulated militia" to receive Second Amendment protection.

"The court's decision deprives residents of the District the basic
right of self determination in determining their own public safety
laws," said Million Mom March President Ladd Everitt. "This is
'judicial activism' at its absolute worst."

Victim advocates focused on the human impact of the decision.
"Because of illegal gun trafficking, it's easy now for kids to get
their hands on guns in D.C.," said MMM DC Linking with Victims for
Change Committee Chair B.C. Tara Montgomery. "Why would we possibly
want to make it easier? Haven't we seen enough violence in this city already?"

The DC chapter thanks Mayor Adrian Fenty and Congresswoman Eleanor
Holmes Norton for their leadership and prompt action in opposing this
decision. "It's like Congresswoman Norton said," stated Everitt. "We
have fought off the National Rifle Association four times in the past
to preserve our gun laws and we will win this fight, too-together. "

What started as one of the largest marches on Washington is now a
national network of 75 Chapters around the U.S. that work locally,
yet stand together, in their fight against gun violence and the
devastation it causes. As part of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun
Violence, the Million Mom March Chapters believe that all Americans
have the right to be safe from gun violence in their homes,
neighborhoods, schools, and places of work and worship.

These people don't even understand the laws that exist or the fact that allowing law abiding citizens access to guns will not allow easy access to guns by criminals. Is there some gene responsible for this?

And how can they lie about there never being 2nd Amendment cases before. There have been plenty that made it to the SCOTUS. Just not in the 20th century.

And the single best way to accomplish that laudable goal is to own a gun and know how to use it.

They're sociofascists, they answer to a higher authority. Government.

When it's in their hands.

I go much further than you do, Jeff.

The single most de-civilizing thing a society can do is to disarm the general population. A civilized society has everyone armed as he or she sees fit. An uncivilized society has only a special class that is armed, usually if they weren't the government in the first place, this special class soon is the government.

And last, it's weapons control that is the anachronism in modern society; and widespread ownership of sophisticated weapons that is the hall mark of modernity.

Joeaksa, you gotta tone down the rhetoric just a tad. Your 'all the black boys' statement doesn't correlate with your '90%' statement and MANY middle of the road folks (the folks we gun nuts NEED for our cause) will put one more check in the column of the anti's because of it. Not saying it's right, but that's how it works. JimR is, I think, a typical bystander who sees ignorance regardless of WHO spouts it. The less careless statements made by responsible gun owners the better!
+1

There are plenty of intelligent reasons to be armed as many have pointed out here. I believe, like Berretafan, that if the vocal pro-gun people start spewing uninformed opinions the anti-gun crowd will have their way.
