85/15 Gas Coming Soon?
I saw an TV ad tonite in connection with Bush's visit to South America with an 85/15 gas pump in the background.
I can't believe they're serious about 15% ethanol in gas, what with the problems with moisture and older cars. My SC seems to run fine on 10% ethanol, but 15%? The whole ethanol approach strikes me as a band-aid at best, in terms of foreign oil dependence, and at worst, a distraction away from the real issue of carbon emissions. The better way to deal with gas is to legislate MPG limits for non-commercial trucks and SUVs, and make more hybrids that are cost competitive with conventional cars. Right now, hybrids don't offer much of a cost incentive, though the used ones seem to appreciate in value, according to Kelley Blue Book. If they had had mpg rules on SUVs and pickups over the years, gas would probably be much cheaper right now. The demand wouldn't be there with the higher gas mileage.
