medical question re. knee pain
Hoped i could get a quick opinion from some of the MD's here.
I've had a intermittent pain in my right leg for a few years now. It's in the muscles above the kneecap, usually 400mg of ibuprofen makes the pain completely go away for a day or so. It hurts, bad. Almost to the point where I cant walk. Direct pressure to the muscles above the knee (quadriceps?) typically helps along with light walking to strech it out, but being stationary makes it worse. Once the ibuprofen kicks in, NO pain whatsoever. Anyone have any ideas? livi? Moses?

My left knee sometimes feels like there are shards of broken glass behind the patella, but if I quit abusing it for a while, it usually gets better. Every now and then, however, it gets especially ugly, and I need to get off of it for a day or so.
Sorry, can't help with yours. |

Could this be referred pain? When did the pain start? What are your normal activities? Could a Chiropractor help or just a visit with the Orthopedist?
I think you need to identify when the pain started and what might have caused the pain. Some things are fixed surgically, some can be handled by a competent Chiro. Some are treated medicinally and go away with proper exercise/rehab. In your case, I'd suggest cutting it off to see if it feels better... smiley wavey Of course, I'm also just joking... I put up with mine for 20+ years with occassional visits to the Chiro until my wife, the Chiro, referred me to the Orthopedic surgeon for surgery.

Guys, see a frigging doctor!!! If it hurts for more than a few days there is something wrong. Get it fixed or later on in life you very well may regret playing tough guy about it.

Just some info for you for what its worth.
My knee popped one day when I squatted while waxing my car. I could barely walk on it. I went to the knee doc, he did an X-ray, nothing. He did an MRI, nothing. Upon my insistance he went in and scoped it and found my miniscus was ripped and folded over. He was shocked. While squatting down did not injure my knee it inflamed the injury I guess I was ignoring. I hope you have good insurance, my little knee ordeal ran in the neighborhood of $15K.
