E. C. Was Here!
well eric clapton rolled into phx and we got tickets months ago. glad we did, the rafters were filled at u.s. airways center. pretty sure a sell out. it was great!
went from rock and roll to blues acoustic w/butch trucks son(allman bros) on slide guitar. had entire backup band with him including chick singers. robert cray opened with his band and then came out later to play across from clapton. show ended with crossroads and layla. mesmerizing guitar work like no other i've seen. first time i saw him he was so junked and drunked they dragged him off stage at tempe diablo stadium w/ the allman/doobie bros. so wasted he never even played a note. that was one long setup change jammed into an afternoon broiling in the sun! gave new meaning to "outdoor concert". but he cleared his name w/me by doing a flawless show last night and it was worth every penny. highly recommend seeing him. it was your standard contract show........2hours 15 minutes with (2) encores. seems to be the way u.s. airways and city of phx wants to clear out downtown early. |
Was he playing one of the Crash painted Strats?
I saw him play at the United Center in Chicago 2 or 3 years ago. Awesome, totally awesome. Now I need to see Buddy Guy.... |
was playing his classic white electric guitar. dereck trucks will only be playing w/him up til march 18. has scheduling conflicts, so bowing out of tour. vegas tonight than i think san dago than l.a. check tour schedule.
i've never seen hand movement like e.c. or dereck trucks.............wow is all i can say! |
I get to see him on the 22nd. It'll be the 4th time.
He's never lost it. Still got it, and getting better IMO. |
He was in Denver last Wednesday when I was getting dinner downtown. It was hard to find parking.
|
saw him in '87, then again in 93. '87 tour was just a 4-piece band with Phil Collins on drums. Amazing show.
|
Just a minor correction...Derek is Butch Truck's nephew (not son), and obviously is named after D&TDs. I saw Derek play his very first public gig (sitting in with a local blues band) in Jax. Fl. way back when. He was only 9 years old, had only been playing for 6 months, and even then, you could hear the magic :)
