Electronics guys, I have a question:

I bought a new face plate for my Palm Treo 650 on ebay that came with new buttons, all OEM, etc... I installed the whole she-bang and the buttons don't work, but I'm pretty sure that it's a minor alignment issue. I have it back apart and would like to clean off the little motherboard(?) that sits beneath the keyboard, it was pretty dirty and had what look like tiny pet hairs on it, can I use isopropyl alcohol on it?

I have heard that they use distilled H2o on electronics to clean them during manufacture, but I have IP alcohol in the bathroom cabinet. Obviously, I would use it sparingly on a small, lint-free cloth, does it leave any residue?

I can post pictures if necessary. TIA as always! SmileWavy

It should be ok. I use it to clean resin off of laptop MB's.

Yeah, IP alcohol.

Used it to clean a cell phone that one of my cats pee'd on.

Phone worked fine, just smelled a bit.

hello ebay.

You can also use a old fashioned pencil eraser to clean the contacts off. Works very well as long as you get the small shavings cleaned out of it before putting it back together.

You can go cheap and use Vodka instead of IP alcohol. For the best results, pop into an electronics store and pick up some proper contact cleaner - shouldn't cost more than a few dollars, and is the best you can do.

When I worked in an electronics factory (building backplanes), IP alcohol was a standard cleaner.
