Shooters

Anyone on here with a shooting hobby? I have recently gotten into (or maybe I should say back into) shooting after a long hiatus. So far I have been shooting skeet and sporting clays for just over a year of so and handguns for about a year. I grew up in a rural setting and hunted a lot as a kid with my grandfather but now that I live in a new area I don't have a outlet for the hunting bug I started to acquire again which led me to the shooting hobby. I want to get a 1911 and had some questions for those in the know. Thanks

No one knows anything about firearms on this BBS....must be loaded with liberal, bed wetting, bleeding heart, Democratic, pussies on this site.... :)

I shoot. Center-fire and rim-fire rifles, no pistols. Have an SKS and a Remington 597-T (heavy barrel bolt gun) as well as a Remington 870 Express 12ga, and other assorted firearms.

Also shoot archery.

There are a few other guys here with shooting addic--err, hobbies.

I tried archery once but could not get into it though. It lacked something basic. Maybe I just missed the BLAM BLAM BLAM!!!

Hunting, target and sporting clays.

I usually shoot clays 3-4 times a year using either my SKB/Itahca 20 GA O/U or my CZ Redhead Deluxe 20 GA O/U--and am actually shooting next weekend at Nemacolin. I am also on the committee for the Southwestern PA United Cerebral Palsy Sporting Clays Classic which we organize every year as a fundraiser for UCP(13th annual is Sunday May 6th at Nemacolin--anyone interested please PM me--it is a great event for a great cause--plug finished)

Also enjoy wingshooting--try to get to West Texas once a year for quail. Used to do alot of grouse hunting--but the population in PA has been in decline for a number of years. I still manage to make it to our lease in Montana/Wyoming for pheasant at least once a year.
During the same trip --also go rifle hunting for Mulies, antelope, and coyotes/praire dogs for plinking.

And had an opportunity to fire some full-auto weapons in Vegas over SB weekend(SAW, Grease gun and Thompson).

but other than that....don't really shoot much :)

I would call that a pretty good bit of shooting at least is sounds that way. I didnt know CZ made shotguns. I would like to travel to a hunt at somepoint then again that would only be once a year or so. I grew up hunting many many weekends out of the year in the Midwest but since that was always done by way of a guy who knows a guy who is a farmer I really cant do that in my new area.

Guns are evil. They should be banned. Flame away.

I collect Spoons, does that make me a bed wetting pansy?

Overpaid Slacker 03-16-2007 11:13 AM

...it doesnt' make you a bed wetting pansy, but it's pretty strong evidence of that condition.

I know a bit about 1911s (and the other guns I have that I prefer to a 1911) so, "fire away" as they say.

Disclaimer -- if you ask 10 knowledgeable guys about 1911s, you'll get 11 opinions.

This is a joke right? Unless you are the "Spoon Man" who was brought to fan by the Soundgarden song then yes it makes you not only a pansy but a weird pansy at that.....LOL too fuuny. God I hope you are joking....

Overpaid slacker, I am a tight ass but I want a 1911 and have taken a shine to the new Tarus 1911 that debuted at under $500 compared to all of the other 1911s that are from $800-1500. It seems to have all the bells and whistles and then some comapred to like a Springfield whcih sells at $800+. Do you know anything about this gun?

Rick Lee 03-16-2007 11:34 AM

I have one of the nicest Springfields around - a NIB blackened stainless 1911, which I got for $688 delivered. Another Springfield I have is a used Mil-Spec. 1911 which I got for $275 delivered, though it was missing only a barrel. Deals are out there.

kwm 03-16-2007 11:39 AM

Rick lee those are good deals was there any blood on the hang grips when you got them in the mail. Reminds me of a cliche my grandpa used to use "Hotter than a $2 pistol".

nostatic 03-16-2007 11:58 AM

No, actually he's Kim Thayil. Betcha didn't know he was on this bbs...

BlueSkyJaunte 03-16-2007 12:06 PM

I bit the bullet (pun intended) and stocked up on what I really wanted in handguns- the 1911..

Nu Smith and Wesson 1911 PD Scandium in commander size. Best running 1911 right out of the box I've ever owned.

Series 70 Commander (built in 81) with lots o'tricks, black chromed finish, everything has been modded.

Para 14.45 fully tricked out.

And, a Glock 27 with night sights that uses Glock 23 magazines and extensions..

.45 junkie, eight Colt, a Remington Rand, four off-brand. I'm not advocating them for investment purposes but it's hard to lose money on a Colt 1911A1 bought right.
