Anyone in Prague, March 20-25

I'll be there on a Tech Scout for "Prince Caspian" Tuesday March 20 through Sunday the 25th if anyone wants to get together for dinner or drinks.

My sister was there 2/15 with her art group, her daughter was at a hotel three blocks away on library science business. My wife received some Tupesy pottery out of the affair.

I'll be in Prague tomorrow through next Monday and then Monday through Wednesday in Budapest if anyone is in either place from the Board and wants to get together.

Hugh,

Scout the place a bit. Prague is a wonderful city and a lot of fun. Only one better in that area is Budapest. Nice thing is that neither of them were bombed during the war so the buildings you will see there are original and the way the place looked years ago.

While there try some Budvar Budweister beer. No, not the American kind but the Czech version that has been made since the 1700's. Very nice as well.

It's been 14 years since I've been there, would I recognize the place?

Kach,

I spent a lot of time in Praha before the "wall fell" and then some afterwards.

The main change you would notice is the city is more colorful. In the old communist days everything was a bland color and now the old capitals have brightened up. Yes, much of its advertising but it just looks better than the old days.

The one city that really looks the same is Budapest. With the Danube flowing through the center of town and the beautiful lighted bridges, its hard not to fall in love with that city.

Budvar is the world's best beer, hands down. They call it Czechvar in the US because of Anheuser Busch's lawyers.

If you have time for an outing and are into WWII history, check out Lidice near Kladno. It's less than an hour away by public bus. It was a village Hilter had destroyed as reprisal for Heydrich's assassination in Prague. Very moving to see that place.
