The hitch: I wasn't allowed to drive dad's VW cabrio until I could explain the workings of the engine, transmission and suspension. I had to read the factory repair manual, because if I broke anything, I would have to fix it myself.

I doubt he really would have allowed a 15 yr old to touch his brakes or transmission, but it sure gave me appreciation for machinery.

You're a lot less likely to abuse a machine if:
1) You know how it works
2) You'll have to fix it if it breaks

Dan,

You're Porsche911girl? ;)

Or you're just agreeing with what she said?

Just plain wrong.

If the dimb jerk dose not want it any longer he should contact this BBS and I know someone (including myself) would make arrangements to ship that poor little 911 to a non abusive new home.

geez...you guys take your grandpa simpson pills today or something? It's a frickin' car. Sure he's a bozo, but it isn't the Mona Lisa. I don't condone some of the maneuvers on the public streets, but if he wants to do donuts in a parking lot...well, it's his car.

While I don't to those sorts of "tricks", I drive the crap out of my car at the track. I suppose some of you guys want to report me to the garage queen police..."poor little 911. Let me give you a nice wash and wax and tuck you into the hermetically sealed garage..."

lisa_spyder 03-18-2007 02:33 PM

Well I drive the crap out of my cars too...

But that doesn't include holding the engine on the rev limiter; valve bouncing the crap out of it either or indeed dropping burnouts or donuts.

There is a big difference between driving hard and downright abuse.

I'll bet this bozo would be the first to whine when the engine lets go or the diff breaks (I'll take bets on diff first).

I'd take the same view no matter what the car is (within reason). The guy has no mechanical sympathy; I don't tolerate that well.

he will learn when he gets the repair bill. But its probrobly not even his car

take away the keys and apply liberal dose of dope slap, repeat as needed.

Mr9146 03-18-2007 05:10 PM

It's just a car; if you break it, you fix it. It just becomes a matter of dollars and sense (not a typo).

Hey, I've done my share of hooligan antics in Porsches; haven't you?

No harm, no foul.

bigchillcar 03-18-2007 07:55 PM

ouch.

Craig 930 RS 03-18-2007 10:01 PM

Entertaining.

Maybe I'll put on a set of 175/70/13 Hankooks on the 930 and give it a try. Nah.

bigchillcar 03-19-2007 06:25 AM

lol.
