Just finished watching "United 93"

I just finished watching "United 93" and it shook me to the bone. It brought back a lot of the feelings I had on 9/11 . The horror that those poor people on-board those planes must have felt is just unreal. I've bashed our president on this board many times. However, given the atrocities of 9/11, I don't blame the administration for attacking Iraq and Afghanistan as retaliation. They probably did what they thought was best for our country, to protect us. I probably would have done the same. There is evil in this world and we must do everything in our power to defeat it. Can you believe it's been almost 6 years since 9/11 ?

Thanks for admitting that. Even if you don't agree with him, you've gained credibility with this statement.

it is a stunningly good film, although some liberties were taken (supposedly the passengers never broke through the cockpit door). Excellent direction and cinematography. Quite gripping and yes, it brings back a lot of the emotions of the time.

Nice heartfelt post, on-ramp. I saw that film in the theatre opening night and it definitely brought back the emotions of that awful day for me as well.

I have consciously not watched that movie. I don't know if I could handle it yet.

I haven't seen the film, but I think the people on that flight have not been properly recognized as heroes in Washington. They all deserve the highest medals for sacrificing their lives and possibly saving one of the government buildings--Congress or the White house--which may have been the target for that flight. They may also have obsoleted this form of air terrorism, since passengers now know what they have to do.

I watched it a couple months ago; I was very bothered by it.

I think the movie was done very tastefully, and as a result was VERY effective.

One thing it really made me think about was how people in the airline industry must have been particularly shaken by it. As a result, I'm much more understanding of Joaksa or Fingpilot's perspectives.

It sure helps when you have a six year old plan to invade Iraq you are just inching to use, and the Patriot Act already written......................just convenient that's all.

Yep, people forget the atmosphere of the time. Everyone was worried tomorrow would be another attack, etc... Bush felt a tremendous amount of pressure and duty to re-establish our word as solid. To nip potential issues in the bud....to wake up.

I saw the film as well and was very moved by it, you would almost have to be a jihadist not to be. I've thought about 9/11 this week, it is very fresh in my mind but I remain supportive of invading Afghanistan and hunting OBL but 100% opposed to the Iraq invasion and occupation as I have been before and during every phase of it. The thought of OBL planning the next attack 6 years later as we get shot like carnival ducks in Iraq for no reason makes my blood boil.

I'm not whacked, I do watch PBS and listen to NPR and read a few books.

You should try it sometime.
