Ha! Look on the off topic board: Thinking of buying this...

If you buy it you'll have a new girl friend in SC or NC, wherever she is.

He calls it aubergine, but I believe that is a nice example of Lilac (or Royal Purple or Flieder)

Okay... I've read 20+ pages about the rustbucket.

My question is this: What is it actually worth?
We all know the original asking price of $12k was just crazy talk.

I recently sold a rusty, non-running 73 targa for $3500. I know it was worth a little more than this in parts, but didn't think the extra was worth my time required to strip the parts and find buyers.

Would you estimate that this car is worth $5k since it is running and drivable?

What about as a core to build a track dog?

What about parts value?
REH/Rayjay turbo kit (looks like BAE plumbing)
3.0 SC engine
915 transmission
Awesome 1980's BBS bling wheels
and small parts (gauges, suspension, etcetera)

Please note... these questions are just a product of my curiosity. I have more than enough projects going on this year, with 3 different major overhauls planned.

No intention to buy a 4th headache.

For $3550 that would be a cheap way for a 52 year old to get an 18 year old girlfriend

I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Chillax.

Yep, it's Lilac, but the jury's out on it being a "nice example" of anything.

Oh, well.
As of now it is up to more than I think it's worth, and his reserve is still not met.

The way I've been determining value on used 911s that have "issues" is as follows:
Start with the price that I can buy a nice one for.
Subtract cost to repair all known and suspected issues on the car being considered.
Subtract an amount suited to the degree of PITA it will be to address the known and suspected issues.
What is left is the car's value.
(I may give extra consideration if there is unique, rare, or specialized equipment present.)

This is just my own method, and by no means a reflection of actual market forces. But the way I look at it is "why buy somebody else's problems, unless it is of some sort of benefit to me." Let's face it... restoring a neglected old 911 is a LOT of work!! (and $$)

It looks to me like the fuel tank is damaged (possibly rust-through) and has been patched with a kit like this: LINK

This, and many other problems, are why I felt that this was AT MOST a $5k car.

And that may be optimistic.

edit: The 73 Targa that I sold recently was in better overall condition than this car.

Hmm that makes sense. I won't go into detail on what else can be seen from that shot, but it looks like some grass or something is around the front area?

One more question, what is this? I have the same thing on the SC, but I have no clue as to what it is...
