Nice weekend under the kid's car
I am sore, tired and happy. Here's what the kid and I did on his "new" car (89 e30) this weekend:
Found the source of the gas leak. Big dent under the tank drove the sender up. I was able to bang out the dent with a big stick so the sender seats. Fixed the sender (works now). Leak fixed! Replaced the fuel filter and hoses. New front rotors and pads, flush and bleed system. Found one rear caliper wouldn't bleed, so I did a shade-tree rebuild and cleaned out a bunch of gunk. Car stops now. New rear-end oil and engine oil/filter; air filter; pressure wash the undercarriage; replaced the muffler rubber hangers (that was hard until I dropped the muffler). Next on the list is the rest of the 60K service: Timing belt, plugs and disty along with radiator flush. Never did a timing belt before, that should be interesting. Finished off the evening signing him up for the BMWCCA and their teen www.streetsurvival.com course. Off for a cold one...

good stuff......timing belts are simple as long as you keep everything tdc....so set that before you begin, then check and recheck that the cam gears/crank are in the correct position when you put the new belt on.
good luck ![]()
