Red 911, underaged girl in the Arkansas hills

It is time for my spring trip to the Ozarks and my co-pilot will be my 17 y/o daughter. Her official spring break and my spring fever will coincide in what should be tons of fun. We are leaving Houston today At 4 and hope to make Hot Springs by 1am. We will be coming back on Sunday. I'll try to send pics during the trip if I find an internet joint in Arkansas.
Kurt V and bigchillcar, I know ya'll are in the area and Saturday looks spectacular weatherwise. Sure would be fun to hook up and tear through Pig trail or other road with some like minded gearheads.
I will check this thread and PM a cell # if interested.

' hate to break the news to you guys (especially you, dad) but the age of consent in Texas is 17 and in Arkansas its 16.

However as I explained to my 16 y.o. twins on their birthday, "The State of Mississippi will no longer protect you, but I damn sure will continue to do so."

And whenever they bring a boy over for me to meet, I usually sit around in boxers and a wife beater, cleaning a gun and say things to young suitors like: "Jus' so we understand each other, I've been to prison twice and I don't mind goin' back."

LOL, lubey...

I'll have to give mine credit. One of them just doesn't have time for a bf and all their BS. The other has them lined up, but kicks them to the curb with regularity...when I ask her why she replies "He was just a jacka$$."

But you can see my cause for concern...they look and (sometimes act) a lot older than they are

Favourite line over here is to sit around and clean either the .45 auto or pump 12 gauge when the date arrives. When the boy tries to get friendly you do the same, then point to the shovel in the corner and say "its an awful big desert out there, what time are you going to have her back home?"

Considering how cute these two are, you might consider a GPS bracelet! If their personality is as nice as their smiles, you are a lucky Father.

Love the desert line...maybe I could use it to paraphrase how deep the mississippi river is.

As far as the GPS bracelet, I have them convinced I have a GPS hidden in each of their cars

Actually their personality is more effervescent than their looks. My stepson is happy and well adjusted as well. I really lucked out when I married their mom..thanks to her they're all seemingly well adjusted, happy kids. Thanks for the compliment...

You guys crack me up....

Seems to me the collective young ladies aren't gonna need your help; no matter how big a gun you're cleaning, wielding, whatever!

But if it makes you Daddies feel better go right ahead....I know it worked for mine ...

Lol, Lisa....you're right, we know you're right, but sometimes we old lions roar just to remind ourselves we still can

I had one kid from their church who was 19 and a freshman in college come by to get permission to ask one of dtrs out a few weeks shy of her 16th b'day. Told him I didn't approve but she was gonna have to make up her mind because if she really wanted to go out with him, there probably wasn't anyway I could stop them. But I insisted if they did date it had to be on her "turf"; i.e., high school functions.

Then I explained to him that since she was under 16 and he was more than 3 years her senior, sexual contact of any kind (kissing, touchy/feely etc) was sexual battery of a minor whether she consented or not...a felony. The good news was that it was only punishable by a max of 5 years since he was under 21. Then I said, I hope u don't pi$$ her off so that she files charges. Then I reminded him I'm a former prosecutor.

He reconsidered...decided to wait until she was 16. By that time she had found someone else closer to her age.

Dueller,

Look on the bright side - at least this guy actually asked your permission! Today that would be a rarity I think.

But your story still cracks me up ! Your girls are lucky to have you...

Yeah...they both knew they were treading on sensitive ground so I'm sure that's why he stopped by to ask how I felt. And while I understand girls often mature faster than boys, I had a frank discussion with the kid about why a college freshman wanted to go out with a 15 y.o. 10th grader (notwithstanding the obvious).

The girls are very open in discussing the details of their ....ahem...experimentation and development. We try to be candid and realistic about human sexual development and view much of their actions as a normal part of growing up. And we try to discuss things in a manner that is not moralistic or patronizing to them. Bottom line is we want them to understand the consequences of their behaviour and make responsible decisions accordingly. In other words on their terms rather than someone else's.

Make sense?

Dueller you make perfect sense.

I like your approach to this. Very sensible. I think the moral argument is finished frankly; it's all about responsibility for one's own actions and taking due care these days. Has been for a long time - this isn't a new thing.

Remaining chaste until one's wedding night is a beautiful thought...as long as you're marrying real early and are happy to not "try before you buy".

I am not advocating free and easy sex all over the place, but I am realistic.

I am dead certain my parents didn't "wait" and didn't sample other pleasures - jeez Dad was almost proud of his single days playboy reputation and Mum has never even alluded to being "the virginal bride". They were married in 1962; but both in their early 30s by then so if they hadn't both played around a bit I would consider there was something very, very wrong .

I know Dad would like to have thought he was giving away "an unplucked bloom" - but in reality he knew better given my past relationships and in any case an ivory, not white wedding gown gave it away .

There are distinct differences now - hell; the schools down here worry about kids and sex in primary school - kids of 10, 11, 12 gettin' into it. They may be physically "equipped", but that's all. No way are these kids mentally "ready" or mature enough to deal with anything beyond a peck on the cheek in my book.

I have already had certain "chats" with our 14yo son - not so much as a mother but as a female. I want him to understand the consequences of certain actions and not to feel pushed or indeed push for "these experiences" anytime soon. It's not easy putting this stuff into a context he can readily accept without coming off sounding too heavy; but so far so good. OTOH I think Mike has run a mile from having any sort of discussion with 14yo Tom - for that he would had to admit Tom is growing up!

You've got it good with the girls - no doubt not without a whole lot of work on your part and their Mum's. Being frank and honest with your kids usually means it's a two way street...but remember we all like to have some secrets too ...

And I agree Toby, the kids have great teeth .

Bivenator I'm in LR and though the weather looks good for Sat and Sun it doesn't look good for Wed or Thurs AM. Could possibly catch you on Friday or Sat somewhere between Hot Springs and Russeville. are you taking hwy 7 or I30 to I430?
Sent PM with phone number. I know of some WiFi spots around LR.
