Minor dealer screwup- advice needed
Hi,
I need a little advice. We bought an Infiniti FX35 last April. While settling up, the finance guy convinced us to spend $500 on a Lojack system. Well last week, Lojack called us and said that they needed to come by and install the Lojack in our car. I am pretty peeved that we spent $500 for a system that we didn't have installed for nearly a year. I hate being one of those "how should I be compensated," but we feel kind of screwed. My g/f wants to get out of the car, break the contract and return the car, but that's a little overboard. I was thinking that a $500 dealer service credit would be fair. Any opinions?

Do you really want that dealer doing any (more?) services on that car?
See if you can get your $500 back... in cash.

Sounds like the finance guy should have mentioned the system needs to be installed, or maybe he did and you didn't catch it. Was the car left with them at some time for an install? Did you ever read up on how to use it? It really sounds like Lojack dropped the ball on this, having not contacted you for almost a year. How should it have been handled?
Returning the car is ridiculous and won't zero chance of happening. You could certainly expect a refund of the $500 and cancellation of the Lojack. The dealer might throw you a little bone for goodwill, but I seriously doubt a $500 credit.

i think someone here said "the smaller the fine print, the higher the risk". |

Since your car wasnt stolen it that time frame you could just let them install it and move on.

Was it supposedly installed before you took delivery the car? There is documentation and an ID card for each Lojack owner. Maybe it's Lojack that dropped the ball.
This isn't akin paying for a service as there are no monthly fees. It's more like paying for an upgraded radio and finding out it hasn't been installed yet. |

makes you wonder just who would have assumed responsibility for this had the car been stolen? a lot of finger pointing back and forth between the dealer and lojack i'd bet..

Personally, after watching 'America's Wildest Police Chases' on TV, if my car was stolen, I wouldn't want it back. |
