The Star Spangled Banner

Long may it wave!

I found this blog entry and thought I'd share...

For all of those bags of dog crap out there so full of energy to protest this country, the leadership and its heroes, you need to take a lesson from the recent “anti-war” demonstration in DC.
Regardless how the Communist News Network portrayed it or only showed pics of the weak side of things, it was a strong showing that America is still America
and although you are free to say what you want, you better not disrespect those who have died for that right. Perhaps you should listen to how the below was written. I will give you one recommendation; it would be unadvisable to not stand during the National Anthem in sight of me. I will take corrective action.

Give a listen! It's 11+ minutes long, but well worth it.

Randy

Randy,

It will wave forever. Did hurt a bit with the news organizations showing some of the peaceniks in the Seattle area (believe it was there) burning the American Flag.

You can bet there were no Vets in that crowd...

I found that many of my students did not know more than the 1st verse of the poem, or that the music the poem is set to is actually an old English song "To Anacreon in Heaven".

But it's a safe bet they can tell you how much their favorite sports hero makes, including income from product endorsements, etc.

They can also tell you the latest crime these same characters have just been charged with too...

I saw Old Glory when it came through Portland in a Smithsonian exhibition. It was only unveiled every few minutes, for a half-minute or so. It is badly deteriorating. Anyway, the unveiling mechanism was synchronized with an audio of Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful. Try keeping your eyes dry through something like that.

Anybody seen the PBS special on this? See that star that is missing? IIRC a civil war veteran asked for that as a memento so they just cut it out and gave it to him!
Can you imagine!

Also IIRC it's now on permanent display in some super high tech protective case, Got to get back to DC and hit those museums on the mall.

Wow. That must've been awesome to see! I have a hard time keeping my eyes dry whenever I hear Ray Charles' America the Beautiful in general...usually on the 4th of July.
