Well, I'd throw my hat in with David (onlycafe) and extend an invite to Syracuse. I can put you up overnight -- and your 79ish (WTF"ish"?!) can say hello to my 79 Petrol Blue Metallic 930. The only night that won't work for me is Thursday.
Aside from the obvious benefits of seeing Central New York, you can turn south on Rte 81, and miss a lot of the hassle you'll hit taking the long-way through the orbit of NYC. Anyhoo, have fun. I put my 3rd x-country trip under my belt 18 months ago, and it's something everyone should do. My $02.... unless there's a reason to go as far south as Dallas, cut West through OK City and take the more "northern" route through NM and AZ. Take a detour through Tucumcari, NM for a real taste of what Route 66 used to be, and a lesson on how long abandoned stuff sticks around in the desert. 800+ miles/day is "easy" once you're west of the Mississip. But taking a 930 will be e$$$$pen$ive. I declined (with regrets) running a trip with Ron in May, in no small part b/c he has no passenger seat when he travels, and I would need my passenger seat to carry all the cash it would take to buy gas. Let us know if you're coming through Phoenix.
