12 Reasons Why Porsche is Peerless

An article titled "12 Reasons Why Porsche is Peerless" was in Car Magazine, January '07. (The edition also had articles about the 997 GT3 and Steve McQueen.). Obviously there is more content in the magazine beyond these listed points, but I thought the fact they did it at all was pretty neat.

Feel free to discuss.

1. They are clever blokes.
2. Because the Panamerica will rock the establishment.
3. Because we love the flat-6 engine.
4. Because they gave us the 917.
5. The Carrera models.
6. The Porsche badge.
7. Fuchs wheels.
8. The engines.
9. The spoilers.
10. Club Sport editions
11. Because you can afford one.
12. Because they get better with age.

:D :D :D No Particular Order, YMMV:

1. Rust
2. Thermal Reactors
3. Dilavar Head Studs
4. 5 Blade Fans
5. Air Cooled Engines w/o Auxiliary Oil Coolers
6. 964 Dual Distributor Belts
7. 964 Heads without Head Gaskets
8. Early Pneumatic Strut Suspensions
9. Early 928 Vacuum Operated Door Locks
10. 914's (Sorry, I just had to;) )
11. 924's
12. Cayennes

What about the valve guides?

scottmandue 03-22-2007 11:30 AM

And they make a great SUV!

The Porsche badge was made up by a salesman who doodled it on a napkin.

Because you can afford one? I presume you are not talking about a new one. ;)

OK, strike number one on the other list.

Because they made enough of them that you can still get most parts OEM or aftermarket. I paid a kings ransome for main bearings for my
Aston Martin DB4 and in the package the bearing thickness varied by as much as 0.001" on a crankshaft that calls for 0.001 to 0.0015" clearance! The tolerances were closer and more standarized in 1959 than they are now. Effing British trash.

Speaking of oil leaks, do all Porsches leak oil?

I'm thinking about the late model 911s, Boxsters, Caymans, etc.
Do the water-cooled models have the same 12 qt oil systems?
Pardon my ignorance on such matters.
