anyone interested? i just read a topic on it, and there may be a need for such a group effort on this board, like the weight loss group.
encouragement, determination, and fellow support might do it for you!! i am a former respiratory therapist and health care provider, as well as a former smoker, might help with suppport along your way?

Every so often one of these gets traction. 2 years ago, around New Year, I think, was another one. And I quit then.
I'm actually really good at quitting. I've got it down to a science. So now I quit for 3 months every 18 months or so. Actually, haven't had a smoke since Jan 1 and (unlike in the past) never, ever want to have a smoke again. It'd be tough to make a contest out of it, though! "I'm not smoking better than you are!" "I'm more not smoking than the rest of you!" One of the things that dinged me from the weight loss contest was that I quit smoking at the same time. I managed not to put on any weight, but I wasn't about to drop the kind of tonnage required to compete. JP

I quit a while ago and have not had a thought about smoking another
cig since. It was easy, just walk away from it and say no. The problem that most people have is that they are looking for excuses in their life... excuses to have relapses and then go "oh, well everyone quits and then starts up again"... I suppose that people do this throughout their life as a means to justify their failures and rationalize them so that they can keep living. But, its Fools Gold and the only way that you will be able to accomplish anything is actually to put your mind to it and Accomplish it. With stopping smoking, you can get things to help with the physical withdrawl...(patch, gum etc) but the mental part is entirely up to you. When you are ready to walk away...then do it and refuse to allow yourself to even look back or think about another cig. Good luck. |

I quit around three months ago, cold turkey, no patch or occasional smokes. Just stopped. That along with coffee. But now I drink tea!
Good luck, it really make you feel great!

I thought it was relatively easy, off over 20 years now. Had quit for two years once but started again, was hanging out with smokers. My older sister quit over a dozen times.
My wife taught a smoking cessation class for a time, there's lots of methods to quit but first you have to decide to quit. Jim
