Oh man, Wayne, there's no one even close to Roger Waters in concert, although since his concept albums, it's not the same.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Waters Seen: Pros and Cons, all time favorite, but only for sentimental reasons Radio KAOS twice and one time was one of those moments in life that you could be hit by a bus the next and you could die a happy man. Saw him on my birthday. The stage was a radio station, and there was a booth in the center of the floor where the audience you could call into the station. My friends told the roadies it was my birthday, turns out it is also his son Harry's birthday, so they get me up into the booth, they play the caller-in bit, Roger gets on and says hello. It was numbing. So I shout Happy Birthday Harry! (there was some "smoke" in the auditorium BTW), and the crowd is not exactly sure what that means (I wouldn't have). Roger, a little perplexed, asks how I know it's his son's birthday, and if you know the theme (one of) of the album, there's only one answer: "Information is Power." And in one of those rarest of moments, I managed to squeak that out and the crowd just erupted. I nearly fell, it was heavy. Amused to Death 3 times, best concert ever. The anti-establishment themes are intellectual but accessible and border on spiritual. I'd sell a set of deep 6's to see this show again. Last summer's tour in MSG. Powerful and evocative, and just awesome to hear the entire Dark Side, but not as coherent as previous concerts. Definitely getting tickets for May.

It is a great tour. I caught him here in DC. the sound was really clear and the band was excellent. As usual, the visuals were remarkable.

I saw him in 1985 (or was is 1984?) and the show was incredible. I saw him again a few years later (the Kaos tour I guess) and it was a bit of a let down, but maybe that's just because the first show was so good.
I really wish I'd seen the Pink Floyd show in 1994. There was a thunderstorm in Houston the night of the outdoor show and friends told me it was like part of the show! Unfortunately my wife was about 8 months pregnant so I wasn't getting out of the house ![]()

I saw him this past Sept. A friend gave me tix. Not really my cup of tea and didn't care for the hate Bush/America atmosphere of it either. He even had lyrics to some of his new songs on the jumbo tron, so it was like watching one of those "sing along with the bouncing ball" cartoons.

I saw him at the Hollywood Bowl a few months ago, it was pretty good, I wish he'd kept his politics to himself.

I never saw pink floyd together, but I saw Roger Waters at the Irvine Amphitheater, and Pink Floyd sans Waters (Division Bell tour) at the Rose Bowl in the 90s.
It's really sad and odd that they don't just play together. Seems like bands break for "artistic differences," but this is an odd one. They play a lot of the same songs. It's a shame they don't just rejoin. I'm a huge PF fan, so I enjoyed both shows. The PF Rose Bowl was like a typical PF concert - huge arena, huge stage, huge sound, flying pig, etc. The Waters show was 1/10 the size, and we were right up front, so it was amazing. Waters and Gilmore are really two amazing talents. |

It's ironic.
I have some Pink Floyd interviews on CD that were done shortly after Syd Barrett left the band. I distinctly recall Roger Waters saying that the public should not be interested in the politics of celebrities and that celebrities are no authority on politics. How 40 years and millions of dollars can change a person...

I've got tickets also. Section Q, but anywhere at the Bowl is good. A friend saw him recently and said he performs some Floyd and solo stuff, intermission and then DSOTM front to back. It's going to be a great concert.

Quote:
Barrett left PF in '68 and soon after Waters took over songwriting for the band. It was in '71's Meddle that Waters first laid ground with distinct anti-establishment/anti-war lyrics. Then Obscurred by Clouds in '72 carried that theme on which intensified in '73 with Dark Side of the Moon. Wish You Were Here in '75 was an homage to Barrett, but '77s Animals was loosely based on George Orwell's Animal Farm, honing the anti-establishment message. Of course The Wall in '79 was graphically anti-war/estab. and if you didn't get the message then, The Final Cut in 83 really hammered these themes to the wall. his solo career stepped up the fervor considerably. So Chris, I don't doubt your memory that Roger Waters gave an interview soon after Barrett's departure, but the man's entire life work has been art railing against politics, religion, government, war...the powers that be. Let's keep the record straight.

I'm listening right now to the 3/17 show from Buenos Aires (FM broadcast) and it sounds awesome! I think an Irvine date was also just announced but the Hollywood Bowl is such an awesome venue that would be my choice.

If you liked the PF lyrics, see Waters.
If you liked the PF music, see Gilmour. Neither is whole without the other, IMO. But I really enjoyed the Division Bell tour in 94, and was disappointed that I missed their final performance at Live 8 in '05. I would have made the trip if I had heard about it soon enough. There was rumor for a while that there would be a final set of dates for PF to play at Royal Albert at the end of 2006. It never happened, and Gilmour has stated "officially" that there will never, ever be another PF show.
