I thought Epiphany was Jan 6th? "Little Christmas" is on the 7th, when the lights and tree usually come down

Lights are down and decorations all packed away in the attic. That was this afternoons chore. I'll take the tree to the woodchipper tommorow.

Growing up in Brooklyn, it was normal to see lights left up all year round. Back then everyone used the big bulb lights. ( I still do.)

January 6th down here as well - 12 days of Christmas and all that stuff.

At least I don't get frozen - more likely getting sunburn. Afternoon of Christmas day was spent hanging round the pool - after all it was about 85F in Sydney that day.

I don't do lights on the house anymore. I don't do ladders and we have a two level home...

We do lights in our front yard palm trees, net lights on the bushes, finished with a couple pre-fab white stars and a 6' lighted wreath on the deck. Easy on easy off. We used to shut it all down on 26 December but held out till 1 Jan this year. I like getting the house back.

I figure as long as there's snow piled up on my lawn, the Christmas lights are fair game! :D

sorry for the rant :D

It's cold out man.. You come take them down, sheeit. I promise to not turn them on after this weekend though. :)

We usually take our lights and tree down @ Jan 3-4. When I was a kid, we always waited until King's day,Epiphany, or Jan 6th... whatever you call it today..

Yes, acceptable for a Targa. I do it. ;)

Yep, Jan 7th here for Russian Orthodox Christmas. The wife comes from a town with a large population of RO and insisted they stay up until then. We're the last ones on the street to keep them up. :-/

Oh Haha 01-02-2009 04:58 AM

I didn't put lights on the house this year as I was not about to get on the roof with a broken foot in a cast. (Yes, I thought about it.:p)

My kids are little so I am kind of obligated by Daddy duties to put Homer and Tigger blow ups out in the front. The kids get a thrill watching them deflate each night before bed. Sadly, Tigger's blower motor got fried so he took a ride to the dump this year. I valiantly took it apart with my 5YO by side hoping to save his "heart" but I could not fix him. :(

Inside, my wife had all decorations down on Dec. 27. Even put it in the attic by herself. Gotta love her!

Hey, any youse guys running those sweet reindeer antlers that hook on you car windows? Those really help make the season.

targa911S 01-02-2009 05:23 AM

Bell you're in FL now, not OH. In Fl we left them up for party lights all year. Accent lighting.

I cycle a minimum of 20 miles a day, and a lot more on the weekends. I've seen plenty of those antlers, and even more fallen on the ground.

Only 1 car had actual deer antlers.

Mine are not down yet although they will be taken down this weekend. In the front and on the dock

Once again, I was disqualified from my neighborhood's "Best Decorated House" contest due to my bad attitude.

The only way to go!:eek::cool:

But if you leave them up - every bulb within an arm reach of a kid is broken in the street by April..

Laneco 01-05-2009 05:02 PM

I think we are converging on a problem at Casa de Lane...

My husband (Steve) has decided that the Christmas tree we have this year is far to beautiful to recycle. Bear in mind that it is a cut tree, not one with a rootball. He has decided that if he keeps it watered and cares for it lovingly that it will SPROUT and we can plant it in the backyard...

I'm going to be "cool" for a couple of weeks, but then there is going to be an intervention...

Actually, not my place - but I wish I'd thought of it! :D
