Pelicans In Europe (Germany esp.) - help with 325iX mudflaps?

I've got this '89 iX that I love. Love is too small a word, actually.

I'm going to repaint the little beasty and I'm dying to find a set of the BMW *front* mudflaps made for this car (to help keep the sides of the repainted car from being punished).

Once in a long, long while you might find a set on this side of the pond, but these mudflaps were never sold here in the US, and those you see here were brought over from Germany.

If one of you guys in Germany (or elsewhere in Europe) could help me track a pair down (maybe just make a call to your local BMW shop and ask for mudflaps (front) for a 1989 325iX (e30)) I'd greatly appreciate it. If I can get my hot little hands on a set, I'd gladly pay a finder's/facilitator's fee.

Thanks in advance,

JP

Jp,

Have you actually tried to order these from a dealer yet? I've ordered parts for Euro-spec BMWs for years with no problems getting them, if they were still in stock somewhere in the world.

JR

I've tried the BMW dealers nearest to me, without luck, and a couple of the sources I use for parts have also said these mudflaps weren't available in the US. There may have been someone who shipped a crate of them stateside in 1993 (or something) but no "official" channel to get them here in the US.

Which is not at all to say that I've thought of everything, so I'm open to suggestions!

I have bought a lot of parts from Hendricks BMW. Many of them have been Euro only. It helps to be able to give them a part number, particularly for a small order.

If my memory is any good, they are in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Well, JR, I spoke to Ryan at Hendrick BMW, and he's on the case. He's also an iX owner, so he's particularly interested!

Will let you know.

JP,

Check the part number in this website:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

If you tell me the part number I can check with the local BMW dealer here in Spain.

Moses -
Thanks for doing the homework. The problem is that the iX has a body kit that normal e30s don't (including wheel arches and rocker trim) so a mudflap that would fit a non-iX e30 won't fit the iX (unless I wanted to cut up my body).

Paco -
I'm looking. I'm looking. That site is great!

I had a picture of a set, still in oem packaging... if I can find that, I can get the #.

Did you get the latest Bavarian Autosport catalog? I just threw it away, but could have sworn I saw the laps listed. I know this because I was considering them for my iX as well.

No luck with BavAuto. "They were discontinued long ago." was the response.

Well, yeah. I know that. The whole e30 was discontinued a long time ago too.

They couldn't find a BMW part number for me either.

EUREKA!

According to Paco's 2nd site, the part number for FRONT mudflaps for an iX is:

72 60 1 968 441

There is no number listed for the clips, and this number is listed as "cancelled" by BMW. But it's a start.

It's strange b/c these show up for model year 1987, but no later... not even mentioned for later years as "cancelled". And the rear mudflap P/N changed from 1987 to 1988.

So, on the off chance that someone, somewhere has a set in a stock room, gathering dust, Paco please make a call.

Thanks a million!

JP

JP,

I'll call tomorrow (20:30 now). I guess if it is available in Europe I can order it even if they have to get it from Germany (that is how they work, I haver ordered from them before).

If you haven't heard from me in a couple of days send me a PM (I usually forget things...)

Bad news.

The mudflaps are NLA from BMW Europe and can not be ordered through the network. The only alternative would be to locate a dealer who has them in stock but that information is not available to other dealers and locating them would involve calling every dealer to ask.

Any chance to locate an aftermarket supplier?

crap. Thanks Paco. I very much appreciate your efforts. I'll try to get email addresses for euro BMW dealerships or something.

Best,

JP
