So Far This Weekend
Well so far today I have gotten this.... Its an Antique? Herize 9' X 12' apx. for $1600 plus freight. I have had getting the real deal Oriental Rugs in the back of my mind for years, I just never wanted to pay the stroke. I used to see rugs like this go at Morans in Pasadena or Abels in Commerce for $3000 up into the Stratosphere.

It looks nice Tabs. But.
Heriz's are tricky carpets if you bought this for an investment. They're tricky because although they can be very pretty - as yours seems to be - they are not considered to be very collectible. The fact that no one collects them has something to do with the fact (I seem to recall) that they were made strictly for export. As such the designs are somewhat cruder and less artful - because they are made to sell abroad popular (some would say garish) colours and designs were often chosen etc rather than as example of carpet art. In any case you probably know all this - but if not you might want to read up. Also, it is unlikely that a Heriz is much more than 50 years old - because that is roughly when the serious Tabriz weavers started to get the boys in Heriz involved to crank out export ware. A very good Persian friend of mine is a serious collector, and he, like most collectors, looks down on Heriz's (somewhat unfairly in my view) for all of these reasons. Of course nice rugs are decorative and someone will always buy them for decorative reasons. But I wouldn't plan my retirement around that rug.

I bought it to put on the floor. It would be nice if it were collectable to, and for the money I have in it, I can always turn it if I want. There are a coupla of other rugs coming up next week...A Kashmar and a Kashan..
