iPod question

I was listening to my ipod today after a run, I went to change songs by hitting the next button on the click wheel, the screen changed to the next song, but nothing happened, no sound will play and my ipod is frozen. It wont respond to any buttons and it wont come up in my itunes when i plug it into the PC. and no the hold button is not on. Any suggestions, ideas? Ipod in question is a 4G 20GB

Well nevermind. A friend just walked into my room and showed me what to do. You have to hold down the menu and center buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds and it resets itself. stupid me

Good to know though!

There are different reset sequences for the various iPods.

Nope, you're right on that one. Being a newly confirmed lover of the Macs I have to admit my Video IPOD does not work as steadfast as my Mac Book Pro.

I have had my iPod for 2.5 years now and that was the first time that had ever happened to me, and it gets used anywhere from 1-4 hours pretty much every single day

Happens to me all the time. I have an 80g video and it is the worst electronic device I have ever owned. Constantly needs to be reset. If I load an album that for some reason I-Tunes does not like, it erases all data on the ipod. I then have to reset, restore and reload. What a piece of crap. (I do enjoy it when it works.)

7 weeks ago, getting ready to go to the hospital for a few days to birth my son, I spent 3 days loading the pod with about 20g of music. Loaded it up and all was well. Got to the delivery room, broke out the pod, turned it on and it was blank. Almost threw the POS out the window - very frustrating.

I've had my iPod for nearly 4 years, and it has never hiccuped. I hadn't a clue how to reset it, because I've never needed to. Guess I'm just lucky.

My iPod mini needs resetting quite regularly. Starts to skip through songs only playing the first half-second. My 60 gig iPod photo is better- but has still required a few resets for various reasons.

Same here I use my ipod all day at work and it has never had a problem.

It's happened to me, and to most of the people that I know that have iPods that are more than a few years old.

It's not a good sign. It's almost certainly the hard-drive starting to crap out.

My guess is if yours makes it through the summer, you'll be lucky.

my Ipod has never had an issue in 3 years. Its a black one.
Ive heard that many people have issues with their Ipods but
generally people dont care and just buy a new one. There is a
place online where you can get your Ipod repaired or sell it if you
dont want it any more.

If you leave your iPod in the car all the time the temp swings can make them act up.

gprsh924 04-02-2007 03:44 AM

If mine does crap out on me before the new touch screen iPods come out, I fully intend to go to Apple and tell them to fix it or send me a new one. Even though its old, they probably will. My reason for saying this is that my cousin's ipod froze on him once and would not turn on, even going through all the reset procedures and everything, and apple replaced it for free even though it was out of warranty.

When we went offroading last summer, my friend swamped his car and water up to the center console on the inside. His ipod fell into the water, would no longer work, he took it in and the replaced it. It too was out of warranty
