New Car in the Stable

My 850 has gone the way of all flesh. Decided to keep with tradition and get another Volvo. Behold the Shooting Brake 2002 V70T that I got this weekend. I was surprised how top-end fast it is. Solid car. I hope to have it 11 years like its predecessor.

Nice car, and that's the smart way to buy them. (As opposed to brand new).

True - the internet is a dealers best friend/worse enemy because fo the info at your finger tips. I was able to get a fair price and they gave me more than my car was actually worth. Kinda funny because they have been doing the work on my car for the past 7 years - they know it fairly well. I was looking at 2K worth of work to get her up again but it still would need another 1 to 2K to be a great car again. That doesn't take into acount the smashed front lens, the hail damage, the dent that my Wife put into it when she backed the Targa into it, the great door dings and either side or the deep scratches on the roof and hood from where Our Son decided he and I needed an old 2x6 he found in the woods and tried to fasten it to the car. The 850 held some great memories but it is time to move on.

All-in-all it worked out well.

Sweet!

So have you changed the fluids yet? :)

The Volvos are highly underrated cars - my in-laws have one of the C70 convertables. Fantastic ride.

Great purchase. I tried for the life of me to get one of those when we replaced the S60, but my wife liked the 3rd row option in the XC90 too much. My family has a lot of history with Volvo's, and it has been a very positive one.

It has a turbo, I wonder if that will give me fits in the years to come? Has nice pop though.

911boost 04-02-2007 01:57 PM

It shouldn't, it is a really low pressure turbo. Just don't go to sweedspeed and mod it, and you should be fine. My S60 was an 03 and I bet it had the same engine and it purred like a kitten. The brakes were a little tough to get used to though....

So which Volvo has the most street cred?

911boost 04-02-2007 02:06 PM

Depends on your definition of street cred. If street cred is your wife and daughter both walking away from a 45 mph to 0 mph collision without any injuries at all, than I can vouch for the street cred of the S60, and for a family car, thats enough street cred for me.

Of course, I am sure with todays modern cars and safety reg's a lot of cars would perform similar, I just don't know or care about other cars. I just care about the one the did its job to protect my family.

I bet I could take a 04 Hyandai or a 99 Saab! Maybe give a Buick a good run as well! The speedometer goes to 160 and check out the performance tires and rims - this bad boy is ready for the track, or at least the shopping center.

Those wheels are a beach to clean as well.

Jeff Higgins 04-02-2007 02:35 PM

I wanna see it with some 21's. Drop it off with the boys from Unique Whips to get it done up right.

You also might not want to shoot any hoops with it parked there.

My DD is an '01 S60 2.4T--I still love it. I've dumped a few $k into it for repairs, but I still love it. 6 more years before I get a new car--that's when my 10 yr old starts to drive and the Volvo is hers. :)

Jays72T 04-02-2007 08:43 PM

Looking good, hope to end up w/ one myself.

coldstart 04-02-2007 08:53 PM

The Volvos are good looking cars inside and out and easy to drive. Just make sure to get the extended warranty. My mother's 1999 S80 T6 had about $25K worth of warranty work (new tranny, ECU, front suspension) in years 5 and 6. They are known for very expensive repair issues and not the greatest quality.
