Only helps me on my home LAN, but I spoof DNS for a LOT of known ad and tracking and malware and crapware hosts...
What is great about it is that this works for ANY device on my LAN, no settings, etc. needed. Just connect and enjoy ad free browsing |

LAN - local area network. DNS - Domain Name System - it converts names to IP addresses.
Basically, a device on my network tells my phone, computer, etc. that "ads.somecrappyserver.com" doesn't exist. |

My adblock stopped working a couple weeks ago too. Well, it still worked but didn't block anything. So I looked and I had lost my subscription, I don't know what list my install had, but it was gone. So I subscribed to Easylist and Adblock warning removal list, and I'm back where I was. I had to restore my custom filters from a backup, they were gone as well.

Short answer: uninstall AdBlock Plus and install https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
Long answer: AdBlock plus turned into a shakedown operation: for a fee, they would let your (as an advertiser) ads through. I'm sure this was their intentional all along. The Great Ad-block Shakedown – ADTEKR

I've read somewhere it costs ISPs about 1/10th of 1 cent to transmit about 10GB of data.
(=1/1,000th of a penny for the average month's data transmission) Everything else is corporate profit gravy and paying off business/political shakedowns. Final cost is $10/1GB to the consumer. I suck at math. Last edited by john70t; 06-30-2017 at 07:34 PM.. |
