We said the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer at my son's school today...

and no one complained!

Wife and I saw our son off as he and 39 other high schoolers embarked on their 9 day spring break trip to Japan. Forty sets of parents and their kids, quite a few teachers and chaperones said the pledge followed by a prayer and not one person complained. That was really nice.

There was a mix of religions represented there and not all made the sign of the cross but no one groaned. That's the way it ought to be. If you don't want to pray, just be silent for a few minutes and respect those who do. Oh, and before you get the wrong idea, I am not at all religious.

COMMUNIST!

Just kidding, some people need to get a life... if they don't believe in God then it's just a word to them... get over it.

I'm sure the board atheists will chime in at any moment decrying this gross abuse of our freedom of speech.

I can't help but think that there could have been one chicken-shick person there that was afraid to say something but is at home busily writing letters to anyone they can think of to complain. Hopefully I'm wrong.

That is usually what happens. They will sue the school in two years, and make a big fuss, but will say nothing to the adminstrators or other parents. They will claim that they felt they had to remain silent for fear of retribution. The ACLU will take the case, and the end result will be the silencing of those with religion.

Time to re-think "politically correct".

Public school or private?

Heck, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my son's private (secular) kindergarten still says the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. In the public schools here in SoCal, I would not be surprised if the ACLU sued to have the plus-sign (+) in math changed because it looks too much like a Christian cross.

It's a public school in Northern CA. That's why I am so surprised and delighted.

Standing quietly and respectfully would be the mature choice.

Some people need to spend their time on other things that are more important.

I we were to "go after" every ad, billboard, TV commercial, book, commentary, lifestyle etc that "offended".... We would be beat down and lead a very angry life.

I went to Japan as a highschooler in '85 with my jazz band.
Great memories.
