For sale locally...

I get a local buy & sell publication every week. Because it's free to run an ad, it's always full of neat car & boat stuff, and odd bits & pieces. At the very least, it's always good for a laugh. A few weeks ago there was an ad for 8 jars of expired peanut butter.

Anyway, I was just down in front of the fire with a coffee and a bag of pistachios, reading my buy & sell. I go to the "boats" section first, then to "trailers" (looking for a boat trailer), and then move on to "Cars: 1986 & under"

The ad: (typos are as printed, not mine)
1957 Porch James Dean edition, compete for restaration except motor, open to offers. 555-111-5555

So, it's got to be a kit car, right? Of course... it must be. But just in case... I've called 5 times and THEY WON'T ANSWER THEIR PHONE.

Jake,

Was it last week's edition? As in April 1 maybe? Just a thought....

Cheers,

Lisa

Years ago I tried to answer an ad for a $1200 Corvette. "Call after 10:00 pm".

Always got a busy signal. I think it was a prank, just to keep a friend's (or enemy's) phone ringing all night long.

Oh I wouldn't post the actual number till I scoped it out!

Part of the publication's charm is the misspellings. There is NO quality control. You can submit your ad one of two ways... either online or by phone. They submit as-is if you enter them online.

If you call in an ad, whoever types it out often does it phonetically... a degree of interpretation is necessary. For example, I got a great deal on a "cambil horse field compresser" last year.

As for the James Dean Edition Porch, I was hoping there'd be a reply to my voicemail when I got back home tonight.

"Ya, it'd be great if you could come and haul this thing outta here. And take the engine too, my great uncle could never get parts for it 'round here, it's got some oddball 4 cam motor."

I'd actually be pleased as punch to find that it's an engineless Speedster kit car, as long as it's not one with fender flares.

Possibly they are away for Easter. Try on Monday...

Either that, or they stopped answering their phone after they sold it, rudge knock-offs and all, for $500.

Nah. I fully expect it will be a worn out, engineless replica. BUT, I've always liked the speedster replicas, so that's ok.

I would not mind having a Beck or Vintage Spyder with a 914 drivetrain in them. 550 kilos plus 100 hp = big fun
