Left-Coast's New Nerf Flash Lites
Can anyone out in in the Socialist state of CA. confirm or deny a story for me that someone told me about? Is it true the the tax payers of CA. are going to have to pay millions to by the LAPD "NEW SOFTER FLASHLIGHTS?"
As the story was told to me the LAPD in a high speed chase ran down and pulled over a multi felon holder who had just endangered numerous innocent lives in his high speed fleeing of a robbery and the LAPD proceeded to beat him Rodney King style on the side of the road with Mag Lites and he then sued the city for a handsome amount of cash and the LAPD agreed to get Nerf flash lites for their officers? Confirm or Deny please. |
I hope that's a joke.
|
No joke. Not as it was told to me and I also spoke to someone else who confirmed it but neither of these people were from CA. so I wanted to check with some people living out on the "GLORIOUS" Left-Coast on this one. Anyone...
|
They are not "Nerf", but plastic. They have been field testing them for a little while now. They also are L.E.D., but will have the adjustable beam like the old Mags.

slodave... are you in favor of these new Nerf lights and looking forward to paying for them? Maybe they should just carry rulers like the Nuns at my old high school used to carry. Oh yhea and guns with rubber bullets too.
|
Have you guys ever heard of a search engine? Yes its true... Only in SoCal would they do something like this!

Joeaksa...Duh I know how to use a search engine I WANTED REAL INPUT from people who live in CA. so how is a search engine going to help me with that one? You know not stuff the media already had their way with.
|
kwm: I really did not give it much thought. I read the L.A. times article a week ago. L.A.P.D. still carry batons and they can use those to beat people. Flashlights can't be over 10" or 12 oz. as it is.
As far as being a tax payer, I think it is too late. They are already in the testing phase and the top brass really like what they see. Although at $200.- a pop, they are a bit pricey. P.S. The article also states that we are the testing ground for a lot of devices that eventually make it into other police forces as well. ;) |
So apperently the flash lites where banned b/c they were being used as a weapon against suspects. However, do cops in LA not still carry a gun, batton, tasers etc....? So I don't get it... If you trade your 2 foot long 2 lb flash lite in for a small one would you as a cop not just grab the night stick right there on your side to beat someone with? Or better yet just shoot someone instead of beat them with a flash lite of a ngiht stick. This is comical to say the least.

P.S. The article also states that we are the testing ground for a lot of devices that eventually make it into other police forces as well.
slodave... CA is a testing ground that is for sure. Also, before people start spouting off like I am a dumb southern idiot or something I will point out that I moved to where I live now from the San Joaquin Valley in CA. but I honestly can't believe how much it has changed... Good luck with your now even more diminished police force there to protect and serve... |
I say equip the Nerf lites with laserbeams instead of LED's. That way, the cops can burn the perps retina and blind them. What a great theft deterrant! Kinda hard to make a living as a thief when you're blind...
But I suppose that kinda Right-coast thinking wouldn't work over in California, the land of the fruits and nuts... -Z-man. |
Ultimately, the police in CA will be renamed "community counselors".
|
Maybe they can pair the "community couselors" up with the "border host and hostesses" they have out there and kind of have a dual role being served for the state. It could be like a welcome committee much like the one a private citizen in that state is expected to have when someone stops by your house to take oh lets say your tv, your car, your wife, etc...

Your right. Just like an illegal OBVIOUSLY needs the same or even better emergency room service as I. I mean I have only paid taxes and insurance (not to mention social security) my whole life so I should not expect too much out of the deal.
|
Cant the cops and criminals just get together for a big group hug??
|
I have a softer flashlight....it's called my BOOT, but it doesn't illuminate much besides my POINT.

10"? 12 oz? Powered by batteries?
I just don't want to know... |
It just seems to me that if the world worried less about the rights of criminals and more about the rest of us we would all be better off.
Whats next, softer bumpers on cop cars. Weather guilty or not, if you put yourself in a position where a cop is gonna frail on you with a flashlight, or something, you deserve it. |
I read that these are the two top choices for the new on duty flashlights...

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
