My neighbors are clueless

They actually put their cars IN their garage.

Joe Bob 04-14-2007 06:14 AM

Yeah....but I still get sheeyit on even with four under cover, I have six cars and a boat.

David 04-14-2007 06:38 AM

We keep our cars in the garage unless I have a big project going and then I'll leave the truck outside.

A friend of mine lives in a condo on a channel off Clear Lake. We've been watching these new million dollar houses being built accross the channel for the last year. In Texas a million dollar house is pretty big, say 4,000 to 8,000 sqft, and they all have two car garages!!! I cringe everytime I look at them.

My dream home is 3,000 sqft with a 10 car garage.

ckissick 04-14-2007 06:42 AM

People with two cars in the driveway have two cars in the driveway because the garage is full of junk. If it's in the garage, you don't need it. (unless it's a car)

Or two cars in the garage and two cars in the driveway.

mattdavis11 04-14-2007 07:21 AM

So, a garage full of tools is junk?

Ahmen
When I retire (In 8 years) Beth and I are going to buy a small farm house with a barn.
The house gets gutted and brought up to speed. The barn gets a facelift and a metal structure built inside. Small house big garage.
I should also add we are going to move further into the country.

sammyg2 04-14-2007 07:45 AM

I keep two cars in the garage, one of my neighbors doesn't because his garage is too full of junk. I call him a pack rat if I'm in a good mood, white trash pack rat if I'm in a bad mood.
I have a lot of tools. As many or more as most people. I have lots of parts and accessories too, but I keep them organized enough so I can still get two cars in there.
There is no excuse for not being able to put two cars in a two car garage. If you have crap that is that valuable, put it in the freaking house or in storage.

Dave L 04-14-2007 09:09 AM

1 car in, 2 out for my double garage. The other bay is full of kid crap, little tykes car, wagon, bike, trike, bike trailer etc. etc.

In the winter both cars go in. (one goes into storage)

gprsh924 04-14-2007 09:15 AM

Winter- 3 cars in, one car out

Summer- 2 cars in, 1 boat in, 2 cars out

soon to be 3 cars out because my younger sister just got her license

OK, tools are OK. Oh, and a boat. And maybe a small hand-built airplane with wings that fold up. And a collection of motorcycles. A nice train track would be pretty cool. Did I miss anything?

David 04-14-2007 09:33 AM

Here's a shot of my garage a few years ago. We manage to fit all the cars in with room for a kart, a couple motorcycles and tools :D.

I'm down to about 12-14 cars parked at my home and shop. several are old rust buckets. my neighbors love me. do I care? not a bit. my mother owns the properties on both side. The parish govt doesn't like it, but since they are classics/antiques, they can't do anything about it. had as many as 18 ay one time but have cleared out a few over the years. thinking about clearing out the 944, 911 and maybe the VW things, Karman Ghia, dunebuggies, and the old work trucks I don't use anymore. got to make room for my new to me 37 chevy and soon to be mine 58 chevy 4x4. 60 El Camino, 62 Olds going to stay right there in the yard. it's funny how the same people that complained in the past about my El Camino, 28ft Bayliner and partybarge also offered to buy them after reporting me to the local govt. Sitting in my yard or sitting in their's.. what's the difference?

What do you need all that space for?

3000 sqft is a lot!

I keep my 911 in the garage unless I'm working on the 944, I only have a single garage with my rental house at the moment.
The first house I bought when I lived in England has a garage that was about 15ft wide but 50 ft long. I had my two motorcylces, kit car project, and my Renault GTA end to end with enough space to work on any of them.

Well, I did say dream house :).

I'm just annoyed by my current 2,000 sqft house. It has 4 bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths just like a big house but it's all crammed into 2000 sqft. If the same number of rooms, or even 3 bedrooms, were spread over 3,000 sqft it seems like the proportions would be better.

JavaBrewer 04-14-2007 02:41 PM

Dream house is 4000 sq/ft, single level, big hallways, bedrooms, and family room. 4 car garage.

We have neighbors who can't get a car in their garage as it's stuffed full of *junk*. He's not handy or anything (no tools) it's just that they can't bear to get rid of anything. Pack rats. I am the exact opposite and throw away too much. Other than tools if I haven't used it or needed it in 6 months it's gone. I've had to re-buy alot of stuff...

Clay Perrine 04-14-2007 04:32 PM

I have a 3 car garage,and I can get 4 cars in it if I push it.

(one up in the air on the lift, and another underneath)

Otherwise I am always able to get 3 cars in there. And a ton of 914 parts too.....

My dream house is a small apartment in a huge aircraft hanger. Then I can get the cars and planes inside with plenty of room. Too bad reality set in......

nota 04-15-2007 11:27 AM

3 cars, 3 garage spaces. everything else is on shelves along the side. Except for a few boxes that I use to ship things in.

ErVikingo 04-15-2007 01:34 PM

I'm building my new garage er house. 6200sq feet under a/c plus 3 separate garages to fit 8 cars (before lifts are installed), my enclosed trailer plus a 15 x20 workshop with its own full bath...

I guess the 2 trucks will have to sleep outside ;)

campbellcj 04-15-2007 02:34 PM

I believe our CCR's actually require that everyone keeps their garages clear enough to park 2 cars inside (they are all 3 car garages). However, you are not required to actually park inside, which makes it a pretty odd rule.

I would love to have a 4-car garage or a full 3-car with a workshop/storage area. That will be a priority for the next house. With this one we were just damn glad to HAVE a garage vs the tiny 1-car carport and tiny driveway we had before.

Tim Hancock 04-15-2007 04:11 PM

I choose to live in the boonies and have a simple split level house with 2 car garage (1 bay is filled with a hottub mandated by my wife with fibro mayalgia). My wifes car sits in the garage and my daughters' 924s typically sit outside. I keep most of my other cars in my 60 x 100 hangar.

You will just have to trust me on this one, you can NEVER have ENOUGH storage space!

My pole built hangar has a large area for aircraft/car parking, a paintshop which doubles as my auto repair shop, an office, a bathroom and a workshop filled with wood working and metal working stuff. They are interconnected with internal garage doors. When I first moved here, I thought I could never ask for more, but now I am looking into adding a lean-to type structure for more room. Garage/shop space is like money.....one can never have too much.
;) :D

sroeser 04-16-2007 06:07 AM

My dream house is an old fire station.

Live upstairs. Cars downstairs.

Not to mention the pole. :D
