Enemy One = 911
I was at a very large car show this past weekend. I ventured over into the "Tuner" area. I noticed that the largest tuner club there (which totally consisted of Hondas and Hyundais) called themselves "Enemy One" and had a logo on T-shirts and all over their cars that depicted a 911 in the center of cross hairs as if you were looking through a rifle scope. So of course I quickly rounded up a couple of these tuner kids and asked the obviously rhetorical question, "Is that a 911 in the center of your logo?" "Yes." "So why did you go with the 911?" "We hate exotics!" Oh really, "I drive a 911." -nervous laughter from both of them- "Oh so then it is a pretty funny logo to you them?" "Not really!" "First off I can tell by the silhouette that it is is a 911 SC or Carerra with a tail and a SC or Carerra is hardly an "exotic." "I work on my car exclusively with common hand tools for the most part so how exotic could it be?" "Oh well we are just trying to rep. the fact that we don't like exotics." "You don't like exotics or you are jealous (I contemplated using player hate here but didn't think it would come off so well since I am over 30) of exotic?" -silence-

Best to ignore them though I probably would have done the same thing.
Honestly condsider it a compliment. When people start targeting your car I would think it is on top of the car food chain or pretty close. There message of being competitive/rebellious would not really have worked if there was a Yugo in the cross hairs. Take care. David |
The 911 has been in the crosshairs of every sportscar maker for the past 30 years.
Look at interviews for the car makers and designers - from corvette to lotus to nissan - all their targets were the 911. Big compliment if you ask me. |
Shoulda invited them to a DE...

Well the only problem here is that I had my first bad experience just last week with one of these tuner dorks trying to instigate me into a race and I think he was part of this crew. I was with my wife and he was being really agressive and really pissing me off. I would already consider myself as being pretty short fused as it is. He was in what I suspected to be a bone stock (minus the chessy vinyl graphics and coffee can muffler) Hyundai. I am not proud of it and realize it probably had more to do with my driving that my car but I have dusted off a WRX and a STi (I do think the STi was just kind of playing around) and those are of course the big dogs of the tuner scene so I think this stock Hyundai would have been a cake walk.

If you really want to impress the "Ricers", take a GT2 to a Drift event...they are not really sure how to react.

Sorry mate, but any competently handled WRX is going to see off your SC.

I would of asked for a tee shirt and tell them you intended to add a caption: "What others aim for".:D |

Can I throw my 930 into the foray?
|
I wish I had a 930 to throw into it.

Sorry to argue symantics, but: By definition, Exotic means "From another part of the world, foriegn. exotic - being or from or characteristic of another place or part of the world; "alien customs"; "exotic plants in a greenhouse"; "exotic cuisine".
They too are driving "Exotics". |
911 is coupe target, M3 is sedan, get used to it
|
I see that as a compliment. People always think a Porsche is something special $$$. Most people don't realise how affordable ownership really is. For the type of crowd (generalization) with these tuner cars that is probably a very good thing, just imagine the consequences - there have been a few on E-bay.
I'm still convinced that drifting was invented by the tire companies. |
Aerklund..... LOL. I like your theory. The tire co. are sure jumping on board though starting with BFG. BFG sponsors some domestic cars that now drift but I am pretty sure drifting has been around in Japan for like 30 years. I wonder if you could drift a 930?
|
Dift a 930?
I don't know, but I'd imagine it would be pretty hard depending upon how the turbo kicks in. I'd imagine that was part of the problem the guy was having with the GT2. Who else drifts shopping carts when they're doing the grocery shopping? |

Just imagine if they bought a $3000 944 and put $10,000 into it? They'd have one hell of a sweet track car. Or how about a $10,000 951 with $3000 in mods or a $13,000 911? |

Imagine the horror! It would be the automotive equivalent of 'The pre-worn' look for a Hugo Boss suit. |
