"Gay Days" at Disneyworld....

Wow, what timing. My wife and I decided to take our kids (2 and 4) on a family vacation, our first vacation with the kids ever. We decide that Disneyworld would be a good choice. We make our reservations, plane tickets, etc.

Got a call from my mom today saying that she was talking to someone about our trip and they said "Oh, you know that is right around Gay Days, right?"

Apparently the last week of May/first week of June is when the gay activist community decide to descend en mass on Disneyworld for "Gay Days". Of course Disney doesn't mention anything about this to us when we are making our reservations...we just happened to find out. Luckily we will be arriving at the end of Gay Days so it will only affect 2 days of our week long trip. We plan to just go to different parks to avoid the crowd.

Now then, I know some of you on the board will read this and say "How intolerant." First of all, let me say that I would have no problem with Gay Days if it were as it was originally intended to be by the organizers, a chance for gay people to congregate and show their unity. Fine, great. Apparently it has degenerated into a lewd showing of inappropriate public displays of affection. And I'm not talking about holding hands. There are several websites from gay people who are boycotting Gay Days because of what it has become. They say it plays exactly into the stereotype of the gay person in America, promsicuous and lewd.

I would like to believe that their choice of date (right in the middle of the busy season where many families will be there with their kids) was just because it is the easiest time for them to get together, but somehow I think it has something to do with getting their "message" out to the most unsuspecting families with their kids possible.

I'm just glad we found out ahead of time and can plan accordingly...I feel very bad for those who will not know and will walk their young children into the Magic Kingdom only to be confronted with explaining what their kids are seeing...

I think they should be ashamed. Disney is an awesome place (going in November myself) but their PC attitude on everything from gays to deer hunting is absolutely disgusting.

I can assure you that if there is any "lewd" behavior on Disney property, it won't be tolerated. In Orlando in general, I can't say.

I don't go to Disney myself, and that is one reason, this was built as a theme park for kids, but disney has chose to cater to a group who has Walt turning over in his grave The worse thing is they don't (or at least didn't use too) tell schools, families or churches that this was going on when people are buying their passes. An old girlfriend's son went on the safety patrol Disney trip, and it turned out to be the same time as gay day. This not not what 5th graders need to see ad that the gays were calling straight people names and acting perverted

I'm sure the park will do it's best, but with thousands of people there, can you really expect them to catch everything....or even most things?

I do not think that is the point. Whether one agrees or no, it is a situation where a group of organized individuals with an agenda attempts to impress their vaues on the rest of the public. Those who do individual random acts of social stupidity do not fit into the category of being organized and having specific intent.

No different than any political or religious group that acts in the same manner, trying to convince people that their way of life is the only one and everyone else is somehow flawed if they do not believe that.

Note that the above is not a ocndemnation of any lifestyle, just pointing out that all single minded organizations think the same.

I haven't seen a gay person ever try to tell me or anyone else that their way of life is the "only one" and that everyone else is flawed. More along the lines that their way of life is "ok", doesn't need to be hidden, and they don't deserve to be beaten or discriminated against.

At least the Disney patrons will for once be generally well dressed and have in-shape bodies.

Part of the issue is "what is lewd?" I do not mind gays either but was at SFO airport a while back and while unloading my bags from the car another car pulled up, and two guys got out.

One of them proceeded to give his "girlfriend" a hug and then tried to stick his tongue several feet down the other guys throat. And it did not last a few seconds, it was a very long kiss, make out sesson and so on, right out on the curb.

Some people might not mind seeing this, but personally I do not need to see this crap 10 feet in-front of me.

Going to Disney and having the whole park full of gays is one thing, but should several of them feel that they need to start necking in public like the two above would send me right out of the park, demanding a full refund.

I agree with you that Disney might not want any lewd behaviour in the park but the staff should have informed anyone booking that "its gay week, so if this bothers you lets change your vacation dates" to make it better for everyone.

To tell the truth, no it would not. If you are in a family public place there need to be limits to what is done in public.

Giving your wife or GF a kiss is one thing, but if people are going to be in a place that was designed for kids, advertised for kids and sold for kids, then lets have a bit of decorum. Kissing is one thing, sticking a tongue down another guys throat for over a minute goes over the bounds, at least for me if they are going to be pushing the place as being for kids or families.

As well the gays and lesbians do not seem to be bothered by it, but what about the parents dealing with the questions by the kids "Mom (or Dad) why are those two men kissing each other" or "why are they rubbing each others legs or crotch" and so on. If they want to do that then get a hotel but not at a place designed as a place for kids then advertised as a family resort center.

Joe

PS, if it were two ladies and I could manage to pull them in to the bushes where we could have some privacy, then YES, IT WOULD BE OK!

I don't care to see PDA from hetro couples. I doubt that there will be random butt****ing in the park. DisneyWorld really is a fantasy land.... I think the location and the expensive tickets keep most of the riffraff and Rutger's female basketball players out. I did see a kid there last time with the Trojan condoms shirt on...with his parents. Some people have no class, no matter what their preference.

Agree with Joe above...

I could care less about the sexual orientation of the couple, there are certain things that are acceptable behavior in a public place and things that are not. Trying to massage each other's tonsils in the middle of an amusement park intended for young children is not acceptable whether it is boy/girl, girl/girl, boy/boy, boy/dog, or girl/parakeet.

Again, if 100,000 gay people decided to descend on Disney World wearing rainbow colored T shirts I would not care one whit. Seeing two queens making out outside of Cinderella's castle, however, is not my idea of a good time.

I also think that Disney should tell people that this event is going on. I know it is not a sanctioned event, but Disney knows it is coming every year. A simple warning would be nice, of course then they would be sued for discriminating I'm sure...

An interesting contrast is "Night of Joy" which is apparently an evening where Christians get together and have Christian rock bands, etc. in the park. Disney closes the park for that event and sells specific tickets to it. If you buy a ticket, you know what you are getting in to.

Wonder how quickly the ACLU would file a lawsuit on behalf of an unsuspecting athiest who decided to visit Mickey Mouse on Jesus Day and had someone try to preach the gospel to them...

well, seeing a bunch of "breeders" walking around stuffing cotton candy and hot dogs in their faces while their kids run wild isn't some people's idea of a good time either. But then again, I expect to see that at a theme park, and is a reason I don't go. It's all about expectations and perspective though. There is no rule that theme parks are exclusively the domain of couples with kids.

I'm all for the "no making out regardless of orientation" set of guidelines. But if a husband and wife exchanging a quick kiss outside It's a Small World is ok, is the same ok for same sex?

And wrt "preaching the gospel." Again, has anyone had a gay person come up to them at an event like this and try to convert them?!?

Convert? No. Conversion isn't really what they seem to be after. They seem content to try and shove "acceptance" of their lifestyle down everyone's throat by forcing our kids to view their actions.

BTW, I wouldn't care if a gay couple exchanged a quick kiss outside of It's a Small World, that isn't the behavior I am talking about...

Well... have had a couple pinch my ass at a bar but it was all in good fun. I told them that "I am a lesbian and really, really like girls" and they did not bother me any more.

Before anyone asks, have a couple of friends who are gay and was meeting them and others for a drink. Its the last time we let them choose the bar! Actually we did have a good time but it was not my type of scene.
