I actually read a book

Very recently, I read a book. I hadn't really read a book cover to cover since reading Superfudge in 4th grade- just never really liked holding a stack of papers that long.

The book I read is called Human Monsters. Its a collection of 2-3 page stories about real-life serial killers and what they did. What's interesting is that it starts pretty far back- 1400s.

The thing that I took from it is that there have always been "sickos", and there always will be. They come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they come from obviously broken backgrounds, and sometimes they have everything going for them. Sometimes they work alone, sometimes with a friend, sometimes with an entire army.

Having seen the news today (the Virginia Tech Massacre), I can't help but to notice the tendency of everybody to react as though this was something new/preventable/a sign of the times. I don't buy into all of that. It is comforting to believe that we have control over something terrible happening, but its not realistic. It sucks to feel that way, but I think its honest.

I have to agree. Reading a book was what my wife did. She gave me a book on Patton and I read it front to back. Reading is such a good passion to have, that I['ve read a few more. Like they say, "so many books, so little time". I dont read any books that will make me feel so-so, but I've read a few like that in the past.

I had an uncle who claimed, at the age of 55, that the only book he ever read was Peter Pan. Once. I always thought he was unique..;)
