Speaking of being challenged to races in 911's, I just posted this over on Rennlist...

Unless the pick-up in question has a #3 sticker in the back - well then it hardly matters.
For me it is not so much to race as it is to tailgate and get too close and basically make their presence known. Like the hulking SUVs and other annoying vehicles - hit the brakes or the gas or move a few lanes away. |
I drove my 911 to work today and some idiot in a hyundai scheisswagon with fartcan muffler, loads of stickers and a wing as big as a 747's came up next to me and revved his hamster on a wheel and wanted to race. I just downshifted to 4th and said "goodbye" and he was in my rear view mirror the rest of the way. amazing that these dweebs think their stickered up cars can keep up. I have a MazdaSpeed3, so I know a fast import when I see one, this wasn't one...

i am sure this has been happening since the old days. going out with dad's chariot, trying to impress the hottie wearing the toga looking all hot with her sandals. i imagine it will keep on happening. trick is to ignore these fools. in the bay area, we dont even do canyon runs anymore. the track sings our siren song. my bro the policemen has shown me some street racing aftermath photos. it aint pretty, and it isnt worth it. do it if you want, leave me out of it.

Three months ago I cut 3 burnt, mangled and very dead HS senior bodies out of a sports car that hit a innocent 68 y/o woman head on at an extrenmely high rate of speed and killed her also.
All victims of a moronic race on a public road. Two weeks ago, two more 20 y/os that hit another car and killed that driver also. All victims of a moronic race on a public road. I love reading threads like this.:( |
I don't condone street racing and I did not intend to imply that I "raced" the guy this AM, I just got past him and stayed there so he wouldn't continue to try and "race". I was a Paramedic for some years and also witnessed the aftermath of street racing and alcohol, not to mention motorcycles and no helmets, not pretty...

Az, wasnt pickin on you.
But when I read crap with guys bragging about racing someone at 130mph on a public road, it burns me. |
Sorry Vinman,
It was 2am, no other cars on the road. Interstate highway, no cross traffic. I felt like I was being harrassed. But I appreciate your perspective, I would not want to pull bloody bodies out of wrecks either. It was juvenile and foolish. |
Jeff, everyone has driven excessively fast in there cars. My self included. Trust me I've drag raced all my old muscle cars I had. Although those races where always on some out of the way secluded strip of road where nobody was near or can see us. My main ***** is the "Fast and Furious" nonsense that goes on now.
I guess my additude toward fast driving on public roads has changed ever since I became a firefighter. I see too many serious accidents caused by these idiots driving like that. As far as trucks are concerned, What about the ********* in his little 2000 lb BMW that decides to "intimidate" me by passing me on the right and cuttting 1 foot in front of my 8000 lb truck in the rain because he feels im not traveling fast enough for him. Thats someone with a death wish. |
Not to sound like I'm defending the activity, but if you're getting passed on the right (by a jerkoff or not), MOVE THE F*CK OUT OF THE LEFT LANE!!!
Do the words "SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT" not mean anything? A lot of people (myself included) don't like being trapped behind someone's mobile living room where they can't see or respond to potential threats unless they back off about 10 car lengths (and even then can't see ahead of them, just enough on either side to be less uncomfortable). If you do that, 5 other imbiciles (probably also in gigantic trucks or SUVs) will cut you off to fill the gap and you'll end up going backwards before getting a clean line of sight. Long story short, keep the stupid trucks the hell outta' the left lane. |
What do you consider slower traffic ?? If I am passing everyone else in the right lanes and some jerkoff decides that me doing 80 isnt fast enough that gives him the right to sneak in and cut me off??
My truck has every right to be in that left lane if I am paasing the majority of the traffic. Long story short! |
If you're passing the majority of traffic, I'd have to agree with you. Well-put. At least you're not one of the ones that tries to play "make believe traffic cop" by driving exact speed limit and sitting there.
I can't wait for gas to go up to $10 a gallon and finally encourage people to get rid of the damn behemoths though. Sick & tired of not being able to see around trucks & SUVs. Just a pet peeve. AND it's unsafe. |
A better question is why is anyone feeling threatened by a pick up or whatever to begin with? Let em go, who cares. A good place to see who is the fastest is at the track. Lap times tell all. Plenty of track days available.

SOME trucks have a useful purpose. 99.9% of the ones on the road at any given time aren't filling it. To each their own. I enjoy chuckling to myself when I watch the fools paying $100 to fill their tanks at the gas station and I'm paying maybe $15 on a bad day on my bike.
Helps keep my oil company stock prices and crude futures prices high too. So keep buying 'em. |
SOME Porsches have a useful purpose. None of the ones on the road at any given time are filling it. To each their own. I enjoy chuckling to myself when I watch the fools paying $600 for an alternator and I'm paying maybe $50 on a bad day in my Chebby.

I have a truck and motorcycles. I just get a little tired of always hearing how terrible it is that I own a truck from the usual suspects just because they can't wrap their mind around the idea of someone NEEDING a truck. |
Don't know 'bout you but my last alternator cost about $200. :)
The ones right here on PP are $170.50 and $195.25 (early/late car, respectively). Like I said, don't matter much to me. I make money off it either way. To the schit-kickers that say "it's mah gawd-given right to drive whatever the f*ck I want", I say "go ahead". I have the right to profiteer off their stupid and irresponsible choices, and I'm getting wealthier by so doing. No skin off my ass. I just dislike the pushy, bullyish and generally arrogant attitudes of a lot of the truck/SUV owners out there. Not all, but a good percentage. But the thought of those double-digit rates of return I'm making from their choices certainly makes me smile and not be bothered too much. I win either way. |
